There is more than one way for a dragon to tell their story.

Among Artemisia's belongings is a scroll, marked but not yet delivered to its intended recipient. But rather than delivering it, she kept it among her belongings as she traveled. Its contents are as below:

Average. I would have considered myself average in every way, another face born among a sea of them in a tiny port town located in the southernmost point of the Tsunami Flats. We were neither suffering nor overly prosperous, living our lives the way we had been for generations. I suppose the one thing that might have set me apart was my inability to speak, but we toiled with our hands, not our words. I contributed as well as any other in the town, and I became part of the crowd.

That was the life I expected to lead; to live in relative anonymity in our small corner of the world, our traditions and lives worn smooth as a pebble on the beach.

Our town, though small, was not unused to visitors. It was a good place to begin journeys, and to end them. Dragons passed through on their way to other places, and their presence was a welcome glimpse into the world beyond our shores. They brought stories with them, news and things to trade. It was because of these travelers that her arrival wasn't unexpected.

But what did throw our town into a frenzy was her status. Royalty, people whispered, in awe and in wonder. We had seen travelers of all kinds, but never one of such grandeur. She had come from as far as Dragonhome itself, and along the way chosen us as part of her journey.

It would have been an honor, regardless, but what truly endeared us to her was more than her title. She lived up to any storied queen, gentle and forgiving. She was never impetuous or rude, never distanced herself from us as though she believed we might be lesser than her. She listened to our stories, laughed where we laughed, stopped to comfort a crying child. We loved her.

I first saw her at a distance, in the flickering torchlight of late evening. She was smiling, clasping our town leader's hands in hers, and didn't see me.

The second time, I almost bumped into her, making my way to the docks with a box of cargo for one of the boats moored there. I lashed it down to the deck, the smell of resin and salt-soaked wood in the air. She was behind me when I turned around, apologizing as I jumped in surprise.

"I'm sorry," she said, "I've just... been looking for you."

There are two things that water dragons respect as inexorable forces of life. One of them is the Tidelord, his prophecies carried to us by the ocean's current. The other is the sea itself.

But it was there and then, looking into her eyes, that I found a third.

On the back of the parchment lies more words. The state of the ink suggests the writing is rather recent.

My journey continues once again. I grew tired of the crowd. I wanted something more. The town was plentiful and lively, but something was scratching me in the back of my mind. I think when I saw her, I saw something more in me. An influencing power that wishes to become something greater within me. I want to break out of my anonymity. And so I left, taking what I had, though little, beyond that town.

But what I found when I traveled south was beyond anything I had imagined. A land, filled with shine and grandeur, unlike anything I have seen. Gilded lights and a group of dragons so large it's far from being a town. It was like a city. Maybe even more. I was greeted personally by a dragon possibly close to twice my size, majestic, shining, and brilliant. She led me home to a place where I could be myself, do what I wanted, and possibly have my name etched into the history of this land forever.

If I could do that, break from the anonymity of my past... what then will I become? Who am I, then?
