Biography

The ophiuchus series of androids are completely unique among the many lines in Brimdrost. While most models of automaton were created in order to manage various aspects of the city and became "infected" with sapient AIs, the ophiuchus set were created after the AI awakening specifically to combat and control Hives. Although the basic intelligence programming is the same, the ophiuchus bodies have a number of extra features that allow them to access the wavelengths of Hives, as well as possessing an extra set of code to prevent mental attacks. They are set apart from traditional hijackers in that they rarely have an inherent and mindless loyalty to any master: The AI within a ophiuchus closely mimics dragon behavior and thought, including a distinct sense of individuality.

The majority of these androids lead dual lives. The AI that operates within them usually has a secondary, civilian android body that they control when not managing the hive. Although this means they lack the efficiency and constant control of traditional hijackers, it provides them with extra mental stability and gives them a means of escape in case a consciousness manages to reprogram their bodies.

Like the hive they control, the ophiuchus are a closely guarded government secret. Any AI who attempts to divulge their job is very quickly punished, and usually have their memories wiped and ophiuchus bodies destroyed. This does not mean the ophiuchus are entirely contained within Harpybane. Often times, they are sent to other clans to assist in the destruction and domination of hives. Some AIs even actively volunteer to suppress hives.

Clyde was the first AI to volunteer in the war effort against the hives, and the first to inhabit a Ophiuchus body. He is one of the only AIs who does not have a secondary body, choosing to dedicate his entire life to the destruction and subjugation of Hives. He is the primary designer of the Ophiuchus line, and the majority of the models code and features were crafted by his hand.
