Tael shook her head. Puyan knew, of course, he couldn’t go with Tael on his first real job. She was his sister and… he wanted to stand on his own this first time, anyway. “Sorry; it’s against the rules,” she said anyway. “But, hey.” The little gray Spiral, named Eggplant, nudged him with his shoulder-wing. “We’ll take care of you.” “Perhaps.” Puyan couldn’t read the fin-wave on Sadko’s neck. “We’re professionals and we have a job to do.” Despite his hammering heart and clammy claws, he felt better at not being babied. And if he could count on anyone to not be sentimental, it was probably Sadko. He’d certainly seen enough to deter that kind of thinking. “You can count on me,” he said, puffing out his chest-feathers even though they were pretty well held in by his leather and golden armor. Sadko hummed in a facsimile of a chuckle. “Yes, I know. If you are anything like your sister at all, we can count on you.” He looked around at his little crew, specially put together for their inexperience on this relatively easy contract, and nodded. “Alright, little ones. I hope you’re ready, because there will be no coming back until the job is done.” “Good luck,” Tael said with a smile at each of the dragons in turn. “I expect plenty of good stories when you come back.” Puyan nodded, trying on a facade of enthusiasm to hide his nerves. “Definitely. But… not too good, right?” “Oh, no,” Tael whistled. “No, I expect the stories to be very good.” |

The son of the leader of a Wind clan ought to have a more carefree life than Puyan does. Of course, he wasn’t raised by that leader. He was raised by a lovely dragon named Blueheart after his mother gave her life rescuing Puyan’s sister Huajing. Puyan doesn’t really blame his sister for their mother’s death… not really. But, sometimes… he does. To help lighten the load for her former clan, Tael, Puyan’s older sister, took him in. Puyan made a show of not missing his family, his siblings, but deep inside he really did. That truth wasn’t lost on his sister. All the same, when she tried to get a little Puyan to write to his siblings living in other clans, he refused━especially writing any letters to Huajing. He wouldn’t even write any letters to his littlest brother, Ruoxin. Ruoxin liked telling tall and heroic tales from their joint tragedy. Tael wrote his siblings, anyway, though she left out some key details. It wasn’t until Puyan was a young adolescent that he began to come out of his shell thanks to Spire. Perhaps Spire’d gotten tired of his sulking, or perhaps he saw something in Puyan that nobody else saw. Whatever the case, Spire simply wouldn’t take no for an answer. As Puyan grew, he became a strong fighter; though, as time went on, he became a skilled and highly-sought escort. He gained notoriety among the rest of the Chase for his dedication as a body-guard, rivaling even Lorne, the Chase’s oldest and most experienced body-guard, despite his young age. He enjoys working with the other bodyguards, even though it’s usually a pretty solitary position when it comes to colleagues. As a Wind dragon, Puyan enjoys the ability to travel that his job provides. As an adult, he’s come to enjoy seeing new places and doing new things, though he’s never quite gotten the hang of keeping his family in his life. Of course, there has been and always will be his sister, Tael, and he does spend time with her when life permits. However, he still may as well not have any other siblings. Nobody seems too upset about that, though. At least, not Puyan. |

Puyan was introduced to his best friend Shaw by Spire and his Longneck friend Glass. Unlike Puyan, Shaw takes nearly nothing seriously. Like his friend Glass, he’s far more likely to be seen laughing and joking than pursuing a deep conversation on tactics of philosophy. All the same, he’s surprisingly smart. Nobody can deny there’s an intellect behind the glinting eyes and laugh that he doesn’t often let out into the open. That’s why they get along so well, probably. Puyan needs a little levity in his life, but he also knows that, deep down, Shaw gets him. |

Tael is Puyan’s older sister. She’s not prone to joke around when there’s work to do, but she does care a lot about Puyan and worries a lot that he’s happy. |
| After Puyan moved to the Tempest Chase with his sister, he was inconsolable. After all, his whole life had changed and there was no going back. But Spire showed him that change, even bad change, could be good if he gave it enough time and effort. If anybody knew how to turn a bad situation into an okay one, it was Spire. With Tael’s encouragement, Spire started teaching Puyan the ins and outs of surviving and hunting. Interested in the idea that he could take care of himself, perhaps even save himself in a way his sister couldn’t, Puyan threw himself into this training. |
