If you were to walk along the seashore, you might happen to stumble upon a crevice, a deep gash deep in the earth. Cyan flowers water the rocks surrounding the cavern, and a small inlet runs peacefully beside the mouth of the structure. Within the yawning gape of the grotto, sand and water continuously spills inward, spiraling down to the dark depths of unknown.
If you were to research this land, you would know of the legend of this cavern- it was rumored to be the resting place of liquid life, to naturally produce elixirs of eternal youth. Fame and power hungry dragons have tried again and again to delve into this precipice, to seize control of the elusive and lucrative waters within.
Yet all have failed.
Those who return from the crevice emerge dazed, frightened, and lost. Their eyes widened, but empty of thought. Husks, many called them- drained of all their vitality and courage. When questioned about the events which transpired within the cavern, the Husks will quiver with fear, and only silently whisper a name.
Athux.
For deep within the cerulean cavern, another being rests. Ever watchful, ever stoic, ever vigilant.
He would not let the unworthy steal these precious waters, these elixirs of life.
And so he waits for one who is worthy of these waters, testing all who enter the cave.
So far, he has not found any to be sufficient.
