She took after her mother.

Even before she could speak, she painted the walls of her nest with the eternal darkness that leaked from her eyes. She'd become distressed when it must eventually be cleaned, and would restore it as soon as she could. When she began to understand words, she told them once: "it makes me comfortable".

As she grew older, she grew stronger. Before long she had left home, driven by something unknown. She left without warning, the last she were to see her mother. The older understood; from motherhood or the shared deep rooted instinct she does not know to this day. Wordlessly they bit goodbye, and she silently slipped into the shadows she so adored.

In the dead of night, she practices, drawing on the powers from deep within her. If you were to see her from far away, you could mistake her for a water dragon, manipulating a stream or other body of water. But don't grow complaint; there's always more than what meets the eye. She has learned to harness the darkness inside her, her eyes a facet for it to be freed. Drawing it out, she creates floating pools of the dark, manipulated by her will alone. She may draw shapes, or she may also make a weapon if it would please her. But she does none of this, and instead sits and watches. As still as a statue she does not move, watching the pitch dark at her command flow around itself, seeking something beyond its reach. Temptation begs for her to find the answer, but she resists- not yet, she's sure of it. Not here. So she carries on, searching for her world unknown. Her journey carries her from the comfort of the Tangled Wood, out across the continents of the land.

The days have become too harsh for her eyes. The sun which was once a mild nuisance as a child has grown to become unbearable. Blinding and painful, she began to resent when the sky would begin to slowly lighten. She took to traveling exclusively at night, hiding in caves and other such shaded places during the day. It was much easier in the end, for not only was she able to avoid the sunlight, but those she would pass on her journey began to grate on her. She became reclusive, avoiding every sort of socialization. Her distance from society only increased her love for the dark inside her. It brought her comfort, a shield from all the nuances of the outside world.

She returns to the Tangled Wood. The eternal shadow lurking over the lands comforted her, and eased her mind. She wanders deep within, the Woods accepting her as one of its own. She makes her way deeper than anyone should ever dare tread. Here you can no longer see the sky, nor more than a few feet in front of you. The darkness threatens to swallow unfortunate visitors whole.

But she is far from afraid. The dark bends to her will, unwilling to displease. Here is where she must be, she can feel the pitch black inside her begging to be freed. And so she does, calling upon the darkness to do as it pleases. It pours from her eyes to the ground, and coats all that it touches in unending darkness. Smooth and matte, the dark spreads across the ground, climbing up trees and seeping far into the earth. And she sits in the middle of it all, watching as it builds her castle.

She will not leave. Kept company only by the void she has created, she slowly forgets herself. The disconnect grows the closer she allows herself to become to the power inside her, until she accepts it all. She forgets- her father's face, her home clan, her own name- and instead she gains the true connection she has sought for so long. For her and her darkness become one, and with this joining she is now more than a mere dragon. She lives beyond what time should allow, never aging, not even a moment.

Whispers filter like leaves, stories of a master of the dark leaving deep within the Woods. But to look for her is a fool's mission. The darkness will confound you, and Woods will attempt to devote you whole. And if you were to stumble upon the nest of the master, it's said you should make your peace. You will not escape her eyes, as the dark is much faster than you may ever hope to be. And as you're pulled deep, down farther than the earth itself, she will not laugh with joy or muse her sorrows. No, she will do neither- just merely sit there and watch.
