................ From the moment he claimed the throne, ruling the kingdom in his parent's absence, Cenotaph swore that he was destined for greatness. At the beginning of his reign, he was similar to many gentle rulers, in the sense that he wanted what was best for the kingdom. His name would go down in history: not as a tyrant, but as a benevolent monarch. With a relatively peaceful rule, and few conflicts to face, it was easy for the Spiral to adapt an air of superiority. There were no problems that needed to be addressed; no issues to be criticized.

Cenotaph's first military encounter was nothing more than a skirmish with a rival kingdom, in which he led the royal guard into battle, and emerged the victor. He was praised for his achievements, the admiration serving to feed his ego. The kingdom's citizens desired a ruler that could protect the realm from threats, and as it would seem, he enjoyed the thrills of combat far more than he cared for the empty praised garnered from sitting endlessly upon a throne.

The prince's conquests continued. The first few were defending against outside attackers, but once the threat was nullified, Cenotaph's kingdom began to expand into the neighboring territories. No matter the conflict, he would stand at the front of formation, unflinchingly leading the Guard into battle. Triumphantly, the realm doubled in size, until a decisive victory shattered the kingdom's morale. Unrest grew as the Spiral, left angry and vengeful after his first defeat, continued to order sieges on a much stronger foe. Time after time, the Guard was struck down, and the once prospering kingdom was left reeling from its losses. The citizens decided that the realm had suffered enough at the orders of a king who would sacrifice everything for a single victory, and after storming the castle, Cenotaph was deposed. His ambitions were no longer unchecked. The prince's reign was over.

A shadow of his former self and desperate to regain some semblance of his previous power, Cenotaph roamed the lands of Sornieth. He drifted from clan to clan, finding friends in one area, and making enemies in another. He never remained in one place for long. His journeys eventually brought him to Mortalia. Several attempts were made to worm himself into the good graces of the ruling dragons; Ayla and Azxa saw past his white lies and silver tongue, but were amused with his boldness. His charismatic nature was admirable, albeit, horribly misguided at times. The pair offered him a permanent home within the city in exchange for his services. They figured that if they kept his ambitions in check, Cenotaph would be a valuable asset to the clan. They were right. Even though a part of him still longs for honor and glory, he does his job well.

Years have passed, and yet, Cenotaph still thinks back to his time as a ruler. Time mellowed his ambitions and being in the service of other dragons humbled him. When asked about the dried flowers he wears or golden jewelry adoring his horns and wings, he solemnly shook his replied that they were a reminder of those who came before, and a way to remember the dragons who were no longer with him. The power and might a monarch wields is a powerful thing, and when dragons ask if his path in life (one of a disgraced prince with nothing left but remorse and a besmirched name) was worth the price he had to pay, they do not receive an answer. Cenotaph's memories may be a monument to those who are elsewhere, but some recollections are best left buried.
