Only those humans with pureness of heart and clarity of thought can see Ammy in her true form. For these fortunate few, the white wolf's luxurious coat shows crimson markings that separate the goddess from the canine inhabitants of the islands. They also marvel at the Divine Instrument floating at her side, a disc carved with ancient symbols and surrounded by tails of flame that flicker and change but are never extinguished. Her tail tapers to the shape of a calligraphy brush, a fitting adornment for a goddess intent on reclaiming the powers of Celestial Brushes. Vanquishing evil and restoring harmony to the world are the goals she holds most dear and she will never be content to sit idle when the forces of darkness plot misery for the people of Earth.
She is a Protector Goddess with the powers of the sun, though she is by no means invincible. In a fomer life she was Shiranui, a pure white wolf cursed and feared by the people she sought to protect until her true nature became known in her efforts to aid the hero Nagi. Most of the people of Kamiki Village have forgotten that the statue in the village square was built in her honor and wrongly assume it to be the likeness of some wealthy lord's pet. She has known the pain and joy of motherhood, proudly watching over Chibiterasu as he strives to continue his mother's quest to help the people of Japan.
Her patience is legendary and her ability to control her temper is unrivaled. She will go out of her way to help others, even putting herself in danger to protect those incapable of defending themselves. Her thirst for knowledge allows her to solve problems and resolve conflict with ease. Sunlight is her delight and she revels in the warmth of a calm summer day, bringing joy in her wake and forcing even the most dour villager to crack a smile.
Despite her divine nature, she is not without flaws. She will turn her head away with a huff as Mr. Orange sips his sake, insulted by the pungent odor of his breath. She easily takes insult at the slightest hint of an insult against her person. She is not one to laugh off a casual comment about her flaws. Her lack of attention span becomes apparent when a speaker starts to ramble. She cannot tolerate needless jabber and has the ability to fall asleep where she stands when boredom overcomes interest. She despises water in her fur and is hesitant to travel in the rain, ears flattening at even a hint of moisture to come.
She has an appetite befitting the form she wears, easily working her way through the courses of a feast whether it is held in divine halls or in a little hut with paper walls. She can eat her weight in cherry cakes, wolfing dozens of the moist, sweet and tart treats that Mrs. Orange makes so well.
She travels with Issun, a poncle with an oversized hat and a tendency to make terrible jokes. His passion for reclaiming the celestial brushes matches her own, making him invaluable to her quest.
