Ashton Drowned-in-Shadows left his home in the Light realms sure of himself, seeking adventure with the pride and confidence of a young, very small dragon who knew exactly what to expect of the universe. His travels kept him longer and brought him elsewhere than expected.

Losing his way in the plague-ridden horror of the scarred wasteland, Ashton strayed near to death. Rescued, after a manner of speaking, by the Plague clan of the Pink Pestilence, he kept his life, but little of his sanity and none of the calm self-assurance of his light-drenched youth.

Offered passage to the Tangled Wood, Ashton dens in what almost looks like contentment with the Clan of Persisting Shadow. Obtained when the clan was barely established, he was called upon to fight tirelessly in the coliseum and forage beyond the limits of his strength to expand and protect Persisting Shadow territory and bring food for its hatchlings. Now that the clan is better established, he is left more to the peace and solitude he craves. Ashton prefers the cold, wet and dark, where he dwells upon odd insights and the terrible things he witnessed on his travels. His sense of humor is troubling.

His clan-mates overall tend to like him, and Ri'il in particular delights in his company; his cultured conversion and light-bred manners please her. He is seen as a fine tidbit, a prize and worthy tribute for the Shadowbinder, but his presence is a comfort to none. Still, nobody doubts that, finally, he has found himself. There is something innately disturbing about a dragon of light who has so entirely embraced the shadow.
