The youngest of Vulture's band of former train robbers, Albatross was just an orphan hatchling when he was taken in by the group. He doesn't remember his birth Clan, but he knows by his eyes and his magic that he must have been born in one of the all-Dark Sclera Clans cropping up across Sornieth. Albie, as he is often called, doesn't mind his heritage too much, but it does make the wary glances and jeers at his eyes sting even more. Despite not being raised in Dark Sclera society, the other dragons at Home think he has very much a typical Dark Sclera attitude - a bit pretentious, holier-than-thou, and very focused on seeming elegant and graceful, though he's never anything but well-meaning. Albie's magic has never been very potent, unusually for a Dark Sclera dragon, but he and his friends knew from a very young age that he had been born with the gift of divination. He can't tell the future when he's awake, but in dreams he's never been mistaken.

Uptight and nervous, Albie likes to present a front that is very scholarly and put-together. He is gentle, reserved, and speaks with a delicate cadence carefully copied from Vulture. Since coming to Light, he's embraced Light culture and learning wholeheartedly. He's always been a bit naive, despite how he would like to seem, and he hopes that looking like a normal Light dragon will help avert the glances he gets in public. Jumpy and naturally inclined to suspicion, the only dragons Albie has ever fully trusted are the other five members of Vulture's crew, and he's loyal to a fault. Naturally very curious and bright, he loves learning, and his favourite parts of Home are the libraries and knowledgeable older dragons. Albie is very gifted at interpreting his dreams, but he often goes frustrated with it. It can be hard for him to realize that he's still young, and he sometimes thinks of his gifts of divination as a unfair burden. Though he's a very bright young dragon, he tends to think in somewhat black and white terms, and often assumes the worst. Recently, he's learned to unwind a bit, and enjoys sitting in on as many lessons at Home as he can cram into a day (and, of course, going along with the rest of Vulture's crew on ill-founded adventures). He hopes to one day learn more about his own abilities, but in the meantime, he's working on a chronicle of his dreams, which he is compiling into a book tentatively titled "The Shade is Coming for YOU and There's Nothing You can do About it!"

Behind the Name...

Albatrosses are large seabirds occupying a prominent spot in folklore. They might imply both ill and fair omens - seeing an albatross is good luck, while killing one brings ill fortune. They are also used as a metaphor for carrying great burdens or curses - to have an albatross hanging around one's neck is to suffer from a great psychological weight.
