Egg Rot, they called it. It was a terror, in those dark days when magic was intermittent, and a night's sleep could see your whole clutch taken from you. It's a thing of the past now, by the blessings of the gods. Parents these days think they have it tough. In my day, you know, if you caught yourself sleeping when you were expecting, you took an axe with you to the nesting grounds.
Not for the dead ones, mind you. There's nothing to fear from the dead ones. If Egg Rot came for your children, the axe was for the ones that were left.
