Zheleso is a metalsmith: before coming to the college, she worked mainly as a freelance armorer in the Snowsquall Tundra. During an especially political clash between several of the warring factions in the area, Zheleso was increasingly threatened due to the neutrality of her work ethic and eventually she was forced to ally with only one sector of the conflict. Unfortunately for her, rather than winning, her side was defeated by the rest not long after, and she immediately fled overseas to escape meeting the same fate.

For a few years, she sought asylum in the Ashfall Waste, putting her skills to good use there both teaching her flight’s endemic techniques and learning new ones from the fabled birthplace of metalwork. During her stay, she met Ghoul, the chancellor of the College of the Seemly Court, who convinced her to build a new life for herself as a teacher at the university.

Zheleso is a devout follower of the Icewarden, but nevertheless experiences some conflict in her religious affiliation, as she is a metalworking coatl and because owes her safety and comfort to her newfound home in the Sunbeam Ruins. As such, she is regularly involved in discussion of faith in and around the college and, perhaps surprisingly, is also very open-minded and welcoming to strangers and outsiders for someone raised in the Ice Flight.
