Gold Dragon | Lawful Good........................................................... Ishvalra |
|
Ishvalra was an adult gold dragon who resided within the secluded island Evermeet. Having a heart to match her golden hide, she dedicated her life to committing good deeds, and would often aid those who asked. Though withdrawn - spending most of her life guarding her hoard - she had a special curiosity turned toward the elves native to Evermeet. After spending years secluded in the forest, she one day succumbed to this curiosity. Taking the form of an elven woman, Ishvalra traveled into the villages of Evermeet as a roaming traveler. Able to easily keep her true identity hidden from the elven people, she soon began frequenting the village markets and shops, enamored by the peoples' friendliness and culture. She was known to them as Ishvalra, only a woman who's home lay withdrawn in the forest. Being the kind soul she was, the elven vendors she visited grew fond of her and her soft, warm personality. She, as well, grew to love the elves of Evermeet, and even fancied a man from the fishing market in the village. The two of them would often travel around the island together, often visiting the cliffs that separated land from sea. The elf offered Ishvalra gifts, often flowers and, to the dragon's delight, golden jewelry. She decided to reveal her secret to him one day, and he stood strong, accepting of her true form, so long as she still loved him. He soon began visiting her regularly, staying with her days on end when not needed at work. They both loved the forest, Ishvalra’s territory easily being the most beautiful part of the land. A green hill lush with life lay in front of a shimmering lake, and within the hill was a deep, sheltering cave that contained her hoard. At night, the lake nearly seemed to glow, and the dragoness had told her mate this was because her late mother took guardianship here in the form of a body of water. Mist surrounded Ishvalra’s territory, the vapor oftentimes taking forms of wispy, spirit-like creatures.
. . .
Two years later, the elf and the dragoness layed together in Ishvalra's lair, protecting their nest of a single egg. It would have still been another year and a half before the egg would hatch, but they were both willingly waiting for their son. Their child was to be named Iankas, and they agreed he would be raised in the forest, within the protection of Ishvalra's territory. Oftentimes, her mate would leave to take fishing trips at sea. These trips would take more than a week, and he would normally return within the month. Although, sometime in the next year, the elf left on a trip, still not returning two moon cycles after leaving. The dragon quickly grew anxious, and she visited the villages in search of the elf, only to hear that his ship had been found wrecked far off the island. Ishvalra mourned the loss of her partner, but stayed strong in order to insure a safe future for her son.
. . .
Raising Iankas easily healed the gaping wound in Ishvalra's heart. Her son was full of more life than any other creature in the forest, but that liveliness also came with curiosity and mischief. She would often ask the dryads of the forests to watch over him while she guarded the hoard, trusting them easily, as they were her closest friends. One day, as Iankas had been adventuring about her forest, Ishvalra was met by a great, evil presence. A red dragon, addressing himself as Kograath, invaded her territory, showing the mother no mercy. She fought, defending her hoard, her forest, and her son, but it was not enough, as she had grown weaker with age, her time spent staying only in the forest watching her son causing her muscles to fatigue. She died that day, unknowing whether or not her son's life would be safe. |
