A long, bellowing roar echoes through the Tangled Wood, making trees tremble and pebbles hop across the landscape. A visiting Mirror startles at the sound, nearly dropping her teacup. “What was that?”

The Imperial hosting the get-together sighs. “That’s one of my Clanmates. He does this every few weeks or so.”

“Is-is he okay?” the Mirror asks as another agonized roar rips through the night sky.

“He’s… fine,” replies the Imperial, setting his china carefully on the ground in hopes that none of it will fall. When he finishes, he raises his gaze to his Mirror friend and adds, “I mean, he’s not hurt. Physically.”

“What’s wrong with him?” asks the Mirror, setting her teacup on the ground as well.

The Imperial hesitates. “Well, I don’t want to spread rumors, but you should know. He’s a vampire. He gets overly emotional every time he feeds.”

The Mirror cocks her head. “Overly emotional?”

“Yeah. After a few centuries, you learn not to care anymore.” He grins, revealing his sharp fangs.
