WANDERER
Zombie knew she shouldn't have wandered too far away from her clan. She could still hear her clanmates' laughs, their cries and their jokes.
She regretted it all. All her mistakes, all her flaws. The sun shone down harshly on her, and Zombie realized that she wouldn't survive much longer. There wasn't any water, nor any food, and her parched lips ached. A howling wind picked up grains of sand and threw them ungratefully in her face.
She was going to die- no. She was already dying. She could feel it in her very bones, her soul. Coughing and wheezing, she tried to fly, but her wings were pieces of heavy flesh and bone, now no more use.
Hours passed in a daze, spent aimlessly searching for an oasis. Only tumbleweeds, inedible thorns, shuffled along. Once, she found a skeleton and was too tired to even consider if it was a dragon. The bones were bleached grey, white and brown, and the skull's mouth was open in an eternal scream of pain.
The sun started to set, turning the sands of the barren desert fiery red. Barely even registering it, Zombie had to find a place to settle down. She would not be consumed by scavengers.
Finally, she found a jutting rock, and she lay down on the cold yet soft sands, coming to the stark realization...
... that she'd never wake up. She took one last glance at the shining moon and closed her eyes.
The next morning, Zombie wasn't dead, curiously enough. She opened her eyes wearily and nearly jumped with shock. Patches of dead skin covered her body, and her wings were covered in rot.
She didn't care much, though. The gnawing hunger and unbearable thirst had gone, and she actually felt... quite refreshed. But now... she'd have to wander the desert forever, until she found her clan again.
