Uriyel's tale is not a tragic one. Formerly, he was the historian of a clan tucked away deep in the Windswept Plateau made up of loyal followers of the Windsinger. Some of his fellow clanmates viewed the Windsinger as divinity, though his own beliefs lay more in what little documented lore remained of the great deity. He spent years amassing what fables and tomes he could, though telling fact from fiction proved difficult, and lived a quiet and fulfilling life. However eventually, seasons turn and the world changes, and some things are simply meant to come to an end.

The clan he called home slowly dispersed over time. Elder members took their leave to the service of the Windsinger, while younger dragons spread their wings and disappeared into the horizon. Eventually the clan simply dissipated, like smoke on a gentle breeze, and Uriyel found himself a wanderer. He did not by any means regret his time with the clan he was born to, and even now looks back on his time there only fondly. The wind simply chose a new direction for him, and he followed it.

For a long while he simply wandered the Windswept Plateau, collecting more documentation of the Windsinger as he went, as was his want to do. He worked with other lore keepers he crossed, his interest eventually branching out to the other deities as he met travelers and wanderers like himself. He may have continued his idle travels hither and thither where the breeze bade him, had he not crossed ways with several dragons from the Twisting Crescendos. The dragons wore grim expressions, toting with them almost a full caravan's worth of various supplies.

Now, Uriyel was by no means curious in nature. Inquisitive, yes, but he'd never been the sort to simply charge headlong after something that piqued his curiosity. Yet, something about the dragons, or perhaps more surely the direction in which they flew, tugged at him. He found himself gathering up his things and taking to the air, tracing their flight path and soon finding himself alongside them. When he inquired as to their destination and the nature of their journey, the dragons revealed to him that they were bringing aid to their allied clan deep within the Tangled Wood. Uriyel inquired if he might accompany them and, though several of the company seemed wary, it was agreed upon he would.

And so across the open lands they went, stopping only a handful of times to rest, whereupon Uriyel made himself useful spinning stories from legends to keep the company entertained. When they reached the edges of the Wood, the insistent curiosity he had been feeling redoubled into an almost physical sensation. Uriyel could not quite place why it was he was so drawn to the shadowed groves, which he'd never seen outside illustration let alone set foot near before in his life, only that he was. He followed the dragons into the pathless forests, guided as much by the light of their lanterns as by his own beating heart.

When they reached Nocte, Uriyel broke off from the group of Wind dragons. The clan around him was, physically, fragmented. It was evident there had been a siege, the smell of loss and the sickly funk of the Shade hung in the air, yet the clan seemed no worse off for it. Dragons walked with their heads held high and light in their eyes, rebuilding, reworking, carrying supplies and moving about with injuries that should have put them down for weeks instead of days. Some even stopped to chat with the stranger among them, though the attack on their clan had come from within their own ranks, they all seemed welcoming.

Uriyel followed his heart deeper into the clan until he found himself locking gazes with one of the clan's Astronomers. The beautiful Guardian, heir to the bloodline that had built the clan, stood the strongest of all of them. The pair imprinted the moment they saw one another, as if that precise moment had been intended from the moment of their births. Her name was Laulana, he quickly learned, and she was as strong willed as she was enchanting, her knowledge of the stars unrivaled. If he had not already been sure of his place amongst the dragons of Nocte, now it was assured that Uriyel could simply never leave.

He fit in with the clan effortlessly. As a historian and lover of ancient words, he easily took up a place among the Archivists, adding his own life's research to their endless Annex. No one questioned where a stranger like him had come from or how he had come to be here, only offered him grateful smiles as he lent his hands to the relief efforts. He and Laulana spent long hours together, comforted by one another's presence, and before long it was as if Uriyel had simply always been there.
