There is nothing but cold and ice.
It flows through his veins, an echo of a time before,
when the world held such promise.
Now, there is nothing to do but think. Remember.
And listen to the quiet sound of claws scraping
against stone.
They’re out there, he knows. Watching. Protecting.
Guarding.
Against him, and for him. Their hearts beat together,
two sides of the same coin. Their purpose eternal.

He was once like them, his heart entwined with another.
Born not of blood, but magic found a way.
They lived. They prospered.
And then –

Blood.
So much blood.

He fractured like the ice of his birth place.
Darkness came to him, whispering into his ear
infecting his thoughts.
He let it in. He listened. And it consumed him.

Now there is nothing but the labyrinth of his mind
and his temple.
Thoughts crumble like stone, his magic stolen,
his glowing eye a reminder of all he has lost.

He is alone.
He has lost everyone.
He wonders if there is hope for him,
or if the darkness will return.

He hopes for redemption.
He hopes to learn to live again.

I thought everything was perfect

Everything would stay the same

I guess I took everything for granted

Everything that is now lost

Aimlessly wandering in this ghost-like form

I wonder how,

How did I get here?

This ruin of myself

This vision of what I used to be

Everything lost

So quickly

So sudden

And now, as my life still crumbles

I feel as if I am a floating image

Looking down upon my rampaging soul

And wondering how I got that far down

A sword through your breast, a shadow through your heart - once gilded, lovely and gold, now frozen and embraced, bound and alone. Split in twain, does your glowing eye yet see the paths of the gods? Those who left you here stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those long gone, calling your name in voiceless, lost tongues. They walk in your footsteps, hang heavy with fangs ‘round your throat - yet soon they will come, if only you wait, those foresworn to one day serve - and when these four walls come crashing down, the ice shall shatter once more.
