The Death's Cap
I hold within me the knowledge of some of Sornieth’s deadliest poisons, held within the most unassuming package. I will not be taken unaware again.

bio ❧

Born deep in the Shrieking Wilds, Strainet spent his early years learning about all of Sornieth’s plants and which ones were edible – and deadly. He was especially fascinated by the myriad of fungus growing on fallen logs and in the shadows of the jungle, and learned all he could.

Upon maturity Strainet struck out on his own in search of more knowledge on Sornieth’s mushrooms. For year he traveled, seeking out the rarest and most valuable fungus he could get his claws on. But disaster was soon to strike: A group of young Effluvial Crows found him and, holding little knowledge of Eboncrows, attacked. He managed to escape with his life, but not without the loss of his left wing.

Strainet wandered, broken and bleeding, for several days before coming across a clan in the Hewn City. The clan’s leader, Cassata, took pity on him and allowed him to stay. Some say that she saw her own death in his wounds.

To Strainet’s horror, the Mori Clan had its own Effluvial Crow: Martyn, known as the Hewn Scholar. But to his fortune Martyn took a shine to Strainet, and, after several months, managed to gain the Lesser Crow’s affections and trust.

Strainet spends his days reading with his mate and mate’s parent, as well as tending to his carefully cultivated colonies of mushrooms. He grows a deadly variant on his own hide, for he will not be taken unawares ever again.

notes ❧

Strainet eschewed the lifestyle of most Lesser Eboncrows when he left his rookery, but still holds close ties to his clan. He does not hold the Mori Clan in as much contempt as Martyn or Nephelle, and considers them his rookery.

trivia ❧

> The Death Cap is a particularly poisonous and deadly species of mushroom. If enough is ingested, it can kill even a full-grown Imperial.
> Doesn’t hold the same values of most Eboncrows, especially Greaters. However, he does see his clan as a pack of sorts.
> The variant of mushroom grown on Strainet’s shoulder holds toxin that mimicks that of Effluvial Crows, albeit with reduced strangth, that can be deadly in high enough doses. He takes no chances of his foes overpowering him. He himself holds one of two antidotes in existence, and takes it daily. The other is kept by his mate.

aesthetics ❧

Hold the colony in your claws, see how it shimmers with its own inner light. Is it delicacy or death? Only you know. Tend to the mushrooms on your shoulder, let them grow. If you are caught again, you will take your enemies down with you. Only one Crow holds your heart, the Hewn Scholar of Memento Mori. He lies next to you, book grasped in gentle claws. Teach him the ways of your mushrooms, for if he makes a mistake you are not sure you could take it. He shines with the light of a thousand suns while you were born into darkness, and in the dark you hide.
