▸ Deryn: Deryn met Abyss when Abyss was attempting to fend off a Wetland Unicorn. Abyss was struggling hard, so she's lucky Deryn happened to be in the area. Deryn flew off with Abyss on his back, her griping all the way, and she was able to recover with his help. Despite her prickly nature, Deryn grew on her and he still visits the forest she watches every so often to say hi and have a cup of tea. Every time he does, Abyss welcomes him in her own way, and they have a few peaceful days together before Deryn leaves.

Abyss was abandoned as an egg by a fae she doesn't know in the forest as she was about to hatch, in a hollowed tree. She doesn't know who the fae was, why they left her there, and where they are now. Abyss says she doesn't care, but the questions itch at the back of her mind. It does not matter, because Abyss' family is the creatures with which she shares her home of the forest with, not with her birthright.

She grew up without many other dragons for company, only the occasional dragon passing by. After a bad first encounter with a pearlcatcher that was rather hostile, Abyss stopped interacting with the dragons that entered the forest unless she perceived them a threat. During that encounter, Abyss was attacked and accidentally used her magic on the pearlcatcher. The plague magic brought a disease to the dragon, and it never made it out of the forest alive. Abyss, not knowing what to do, left the body and the bones remain to this day, smelling of ocean breeze. That clearing is one she does not enter, for the sounds of waves crashing remind her of the dreadful fight and her part in it.

Instead of being scared of her powers, Abyss learned how to harness them and control them without killing, and is now very skilled at the art of plague magic. She watches over the forest with a keen eye, scrutinizing everything out of place and stepping in when she feels she must. A fierce warrior, Abyss never hesitates in battle and feels she has fared better being raised by the forest than by her own kin.

The library deep in the woods has bolstered her knowledge immensely. Abyss often says she wouldn't be able to live without the enormous underground library she found within the hollow tree she was left in. Burrowing down through the thick layer of sap left in the hollow paid off when Abyss was met with a large antique library looking to have been built eons ago, but with books from as recent as right before her birth. This clued her in as to a possible reason this was the place she was left, or perhaps the Plaguebringer had just smiled down upon her the day she was abandoned. The library holds all the knowledge Abyss could ever need, from architecture to dragon culture across breeds, to battle tactics and a healthy amount regarding plague magic.

Because of the amount of information about magic in the library, Abyss knows that the magical power she uses must come from somewhere, but she has yet been able to find the source.

▸ Fae: being a fae, Abyss is tiny but fierce. Able to take down creatures a hundred times her size, Abyss never gives up in the face of danger and would do anything to protect her home. The body language of fae is extremely different than that of other dragons, but Abyss cannot easily read fae dragons or otherwise as she did not grow up around any dragons, including fae. Abyss defends her home using magic, like most fae, calling upon the element of plague to protect her den and the creatures of the forest.

____Every morning, Abyss paints eyes on her body and a skull on her face to appear more menacing. After reading about bodily camouflage in one of the books she found in her library, she decided to try it out. It worked! When she went out, the local Ruffletail Tadhops croaked in fear and hopped away before she laughed and reassured them of who it was. Of course, all the locals know her facade, but any assertive dragons or creatures passing by will be fooled.
