Biography

Amboral

Amboral is a very kind dragon, he absolutely loves hatchlings. Despite that, he's still dangerous, and tends to accidentally crush things, though luckily he hasn't stepped on any dragons or their familiars. He tends to the hatchlings in the clan, huddling them under his cape when it get's cold, and taking them out to the shallows the play when it's warm. Tropiktide generally follows him, the two are very good friends.

Well, they were very good friends until the accident that lead to him being sent away.

One day he had gone to visit some new parents and their day-old younglings. They climbed up his legs and along his wings, as children often do. They tickled him terribly and he jerked suddenly, stepping back on the quietest one. The dreadful crunch alerted everyone to what had happened. Amboral gently clutched the little one in his talons and bolted across the lair to the healers. His massive wings helped him tear through the clouds as fast as the wind itself.

The healers were able to save the child's life, but he would never be the same. His spine crushed and his hind legs twisted.

Time passed, but the tribe never really forgave him. They didn't trust him around the smaller dragons of the clan. The Fae and the children kept their distance. Even juvenile Spirals gave him a wider berth than they had before. Tropiktide especially felt ill at ease seeing just how powerful Amboral was. Living in his homeland without his friend was heartbreaking. Amboral decided that he should leave for the good of the clan. He knew in his heart that they wouldn't feel peace until he left.

Amboral traveled for a time. He tried to keep his spirits up by seeing the islands he'd only heard of and flying to the tops of the highest peaks. In the end he wasn't cut out for solitude. He was lonely and missed his old life. His home, his family, and the life he left behind. He lost the will to eat and soon lost the strength to fly. He trudged along the sandy beaches. Occasionally eating a sea bug or bit of washed up kelp, enough to stop his passing but little more than that. Eventually he simply collapsed under his own weight. He could go no further. He wept bitter tears until he fell asleep.

He awoke disoriented, he was on wonderfully soft bedding under a large tent. Where was he? What happened? "Is this a dream?", he wondered aloud.

A kind voice from outside the tent answered him, "No, not a dream. Though you almost became one. You were very close to leaving this world when some fishers found you here."

A beautiful green Coatl pushed through the white cotton draping with a bucket of food and a pitcher of some strongly scented liquid. "We're still on the beach.", she informed him, "you were too large for any in our tribe to move and you needed care pretty quickly. Once you can at least walk under your own power you can stay with the clan for a while to regain your strength."

Amboral heard most of what she said, but the smell of food was very distracting. "Is that food for me then?", he asked timidly.

"Yes, but not yet. It's a little bit of everything, but it needs to be soaked in this heated broth. Simple food & water will not remedy the condition of your body. How long have you been starving?"

The female Coatl was less than half his size but very imposing. He felt compelled to tell her how he ended up here. He also felt guilty taking help from anyone. He felt like he didn't deserve help after what he'd done. She continued her work the whole time he was talking. She asked few questions as she continued working setting up the food she was preparing. She brought in some more buckets and rolled a large cauldron into the center of the tent. She pushed hot stones all around the cauldron and put the broth & food stuffs into it.

"What happened was a terrible accident, but these things happen. The first person who has to forgive you is yourself."

Tears welled up in his eyes and rolled down his scaled cheeks. No one had spoken as kindly to him as she had since it happened. He didn't even know what he was feeling in this moment. He sat there with a lump in his throat as she continued.

"Give the broth some time to get warm, the herbs have to be warm to work well. You must eat slowly, or you'll throw up. Your stomach needs time to remember what to do with it. If it gets cold the rocks can be swapped for some hot ones. It isn't safe for you to be around a fire in this condition. I have to return to the lair, but there are some attendants here in case something happens. They can come fly and get me. My name is Peridot, I'm the healer in this clan."

He tried to thank her but she just shook her head that it is what any tribe would do. She slipped out of the tent for the last time and he heard the sound of her wings break the air as she soared into the sky.
