Biography
I surround myself in shadow. I bury myself in it. It fills my eyes, my mouth, I breathe it in and when I exhale it wisps around my jaws.
It almost took my life, and I will know it. I will become it. It will never hurt me again.
They called me worthless. Insufficient. Unsuitable. The artist saw the hint of my third color and sneered. They slated me to die for their bleeding shadow. I refused. I fled. I drew the darkness around me, the true dark that belongs to my flight and not the creeping thing that has come to lurk within it, and dissolved into it, and fled.
I dream, some nights, that the shadow does not go when I dispel it. It crushes my heart and stops my breath and swallows me whole, and I drown in it, drown in the thickness of the blood that has soaked the earth for its pleasure. Thura shelters me under eir wing, calms me from my nightmare. Thura does not know the shadow as I, but Thura is kind and gentle, and it helps. Verditer and Columba protect me when we go to fight, and Columba has taught me to wield darkness as she wields her fire.
The shadow caught me and consumed me and spat me out again. The third color they deemed so useless sparkles in my mane. I will live. And when the shadow rises, and the time comes to raise tooth and claw and spell against it, I will fight it with the stuff it is made of.
