The Beginning
A tiny dragon stirred in the darkness. He was imprisoned. The hatchling twitches his tiny talons. Exited voices called out from outside. Suddenly, he felt a presence. A dim light calling him from beyond his egg. He wanted it, to feel the light bask on his scales and swallow him whole. The hatchling began to beat against the walls of his prison with his legs. He heard the wall splinter. Pleased with his progress, he kicked harder until the walls burst open and he was swept out into the light he so desperately wanted to see. Dazed and confused, two dark faces descended on him, to blurry to see. Careful talons swept under him like a coming wind and lifted him into the air. “Welcome to Sornieth, my son.” His father echoed. “your name will be Tyllwyll.”

Escape
He had to leave, There was no place for him here in the Tangled Wood. His father knew about the dark magics that danced from his claws. His room was small, with nothing but piles of books and a single yawning window. Tyllwyll used to love stories, especially when it was told to him by his mother, Firefly. I can’t think of the past. Not now. He scolded himself. He pricked his ears. Talonsteps. His head swimming with memories, he adjusted the satchel around his waist and headed for the window. As he climbed out, he heard talons thumping against the door like heartbeats. He didn’t look back as his dark scales merged with the night outside.

Hiding
Tyllwyll sped through the undergrowth, his wings fluttering madly like dazed bats. He was thankful the Wispwillow Grove wasn’t as crowded as the Driftwood Drag. Tyllwyll suddenly stopped and cast out his senses. Two dragons were coming nearby. A coatl and a wildclaw. He guessed. He could hear the coatl’s belly brushing the ground and the wildclaw’s scythe-like claws tapping on the ground. Desperate to stay hidden, he plunged into the nearest trading cart. When he chattering of the two dragons died out, he peered out into the darkness of the cart, ears flickering like fallen leaves. It was an apparel cart, with different articles of clothing neatly stacked and folded into crates. I should disguise myself. He thought. He sought through a series of crates, until he was content with what he found. He had a fluffy covering of feathers over his wings, chest and tail. A black hood adorned his head, and ebony gauntlets and boots gleamed in the dim light of the moon. He was pleased with his finds, but he was not completely anonymised. Glancing around the room, he froze as a white shape caught his gaze like brambles in his wings. A polished eastsong mask hung from a stand like a skull from a dragon’s talons. He hopped across the room and with trembling talons, he donned the mask. With a hiss of frustration, he realised the masked sealed his snout shut. No matter. They will never find me now. He thought.
