It is an oft-remarked notion that those from Dragonhome are among the toughest and hardest of Dragonkind; living in a relatively inhospitable region of Sornieth both in terms of environment and the general lack of available food sources. Food sources in the Viridian Labyrinth and Scarred Wasteland may be more prone to fightin back, but at least it exists.

Whether it was the promise of a more active struggle or merely boredom with incessant lectures about the history of the Pillar, Meyneth left her home in the Shattered Plain early in life. Initially she traveled to the Viridian Labyrinth, seeking both prey and some amount of vibrancy in her surroundings. What she found instead was life burgeoning to the point of being infuriating and far too many close quarters for her massive frame.

Unwilling to return to the home she’d left, she took a different route, crossing the channel and venturing into a darker forest, one that was both more open and yet stuffier. It was while traveling through the domain of the Shadowbinder that she began acquiring something of an appreciating for the darkness and just how menacing it could be.

W
hat had gone into the Tangled Wood a sleek and elegant looking Ridgeback emerged into the Scarred Wasteland a hulking armored form bedecked in ebony plate and strange amulets that emitted an eerie miasma from their jeweled surfaces.

It was as she was setting foot in the Wasteland that she spotted a party of dragons; a Wildclaw and another Ridgeback leading a group of other dragons to a meeting party emerging from another area of the shadowy woodland. Some of them looked near death, all were injured in some capacity or another. Eventually, the Shadow dragons took the injured ones in while the Widlclaw and Ridgeback returned back into the Scarred Wasteland.

And Meyneth followed.

She tracked the two for days, staying far enough back to avoid being spotted but close enough to avoid losing their trail. Eventually she saw them emerge into a region marked by walls and banners as the Sunstriker Territory. She had heard rumors of the place from other travelers; it was a region controlled by a Wildclaw rumored to be undead, an anomaly within the Plaguebringer’s realm.

The majesty of the place appealed to Meyneth and she immediately began to devise a plan of action. While heroics were certainly...noteworthy, the actions of the Wildclaw and Ridgeback were actively undermining the territory Batu had claimed as his own, and such an expanding empire would prove not noteworthy, but the very stuff of legend.

The first order of business was a trip to Baldwin’s. She decided Batu would appreciate her ability to intimidate most others with a mere look, but felt that a somewhat more slippery and elusive form was going to suit her better.

She left the Sunstriker lands for the Trading Post regions. Meyneth knew individual clans and lairs retained their own alchemists, but there was always something a bit safer both in visiting one who was both the master and a neutral party.

Unfortunately, the scroll she had crafted was ruined; botched as an overeager apprentice dropped a screaming tickbird into the wrong cauldron. When Baldwin carefully extracted the resulting mess of faintly glowing paper, it was declared unusable.

Still, such a thing seemed dangerous in the wrong hands, and for that very reason Meyneth took the irradiated scroll and concealed it in a pouch under her armor. A part of her was disappointed at the time she’d taken traveling and the fact that another scroll would take weeks to prepare, but in the end she decided to risk entering the Sunstriker lands in her current form; trusting to intimidation to keep her out of too much trouble with the other dragons of the clan.

Upon returning, she was met with an unexpected obstacle. Her following of the two resistance leaders had not been nearly as unnoticed as she had hoped, and she was confronted by a Coatl; one whose regalia resembled that of the higher echelons of the Sunstrikers.

Unintimidated by what was most assuredly someone higher up within the army, Meyneth attacked; trusting not only in her size, strength, and savagery, but also deciding that perhaps the carcass of such a high-ranking dragon would make an excellent proof of her talents before Batu.

At first, the Coatl Dreja was unwilling to fight directly; preferring to evade and keep the Ridgeback at bay with barriers of Light magic. Unenamored with the display, Meyneth pressed forward, backing the smaller dragon into a cul-de-sac.

Finally, Dreja launched a direct attack; intending to draw on the power of an amulet at her neck and channel Batu’s fire at her enemy. Caught unawares, Meyneth took the full blast of the amulet square in the chest, the rays of fire penetrating the armor she wore and striking the concealed scroll, which immediately began to emit flashes of a strange and unnatural light. Frantically, Meyneth tore it away from the remains of the pouch it had been kept in and threw it in Dreja’s face.

There was an explosion and for a moment, the massive Ridgeback was blinded.

What she saw when her vision returned made her smile, and when what she saw attempted to speak, she laughed. It was that laughter that rang in the mutated Dreja’s ears as she flapped away, and that laughter that gave way to a low snickering as Meyneth plucked the powerful amulet from the ground where it had been abandoned. Staring into it, she felt the power within and realized that she’d found something worth considerably more than the feathery remains of another Dragon.

She entered the Sunstrikers’ fortress, armed not only with the amulet of Batu’s power, but the knowledge of what was most assuredly internal resistance to the Wildclaw’s rule.

Today Meyneth enjoys her position within the Sunstrikers; feared by nearly every other dragon within the region, and respected by Batu, who appears to believe that resistance forces are responsible for the demise of his former mate Dreja. She is content to hold and guard the knowledge that could destabilize everything going on within the arid lands in an instant.
