Many years ago, when the giant engine caused the catastrophe that birthed the Arcanist and gave way to the Third Age, more souls were born to the immense magic. The raw energy that had created the Arcanist was spread, and in the place where he lay, the magic seeped into the ground, absorbed by every small crack and crevice this swirling aura could creep into. Several years passed, the magic pooled together, and created new life.

Before the great deities had created the first wyrms, the first spirit emerged from the Arcanist's birthplace. Several other souls emerged with it, and they gathered around the first spirit, as it seemed to possess the strongest concentration of arcane energy. They wandered the world, the smaller spirits following the First, observing, never speaking but understanding one another. These spirits watched the deities sculpt the first shapes of dragonkind, watched the world populate, watched the world grow. Eventually, many of these spirits parted ways to follow their own interests, but two of the largest spirits stayed with the First.

The First and their two companions wandered ever more. They soon found that the more they observed and learned, the more their energy grew. They disbanded and reunited on occasion to gather different knowledge and share their different stories. One day, the First felt an intense interest in a certain dragon. Skin and fur darker than the void, wings that shined like stars, and precious stones that almost writhed with magnificent energy... Aphea, their first incarnation.

This vessel was definitely not their first form. In fact, Aphea's first incarnation was eons ago, and since then their soul has taken residence in many vessels. This form was found as Aphea's (then called Aphaeus) previous body, a petite, forest-coloured male coatl born to the Wind flight, was ageing and weakening. He was collecting Arctic scrub from the Snowsquall Tundra for his research and potion-making, trudging through the heavy snow, scrunching up his face to the icy needles when he tripped and fell into a thick pillow of snow. Thinking it was a large root, Apheaus dug into the snow, only to find an unconscious little hatchling.

Apheaus felt a strong bond to the young dragon as he carried it to their nomadic abode. He did all he could, using every drop of his knowledge to wake the child, but her eyes stayed closed. Days passed; Apheaus was scribbling down writings at his desk ,when he heard the child's voice. Before he even turned his head, he could feel strong magic surging through the air; both good and evil, simultaneously elemental yet completely neutral. He closed his eyes to the bright light that surrounded him.

He opened his eyes. His former body was laying in front of him. His soul had somehow been forced into the child's body. Suddenly, in that sliver of confusion, Aphea began to have swirling, raging visions. They rushed around her, lifting her off the ground and encasing her in a chrysalis of dangerously potent magic; her eyes were open, reflecting the magic visions, she shook... And she collapsed onto the floor, drained.

In this form, Aphea was awakened. In this form, she possessed powers only known to the universe. In this form, she was the culmination of the powers of good and evil. Yet, she suffered. Following the days of her transformation, she would not eat, she would not sleep. The visions uncovered, she could see them whenever she blinked; The End, every dragon, lost to the severe imbalance that loomed over a wasteland. She felt betrayed by the universe for making her immortal. She would live to see this day, and continue living after that. This became her will.

Older, more mature, Aphea reunited with the two spirits she used to roam with. They had taken forms similar to her, and their stories aligned. Aphea lamented about her visions, and put forth a plan to maintain the balance, so as not to come to The End her visions had brought her to. They quarrelled, but finally agreed. This became the Cabals of Aphea.

Aphea travelled, absorbing more knowledge and using her immense power to create peace as well as chaos, enough justice for enough evil. Some dragons mocked her, despised her, calling her a witch with no direction, but others understood. Some dragons followed; some with traces of magic from the original spirits, some with intent to obtain knowledge. The Cabals' numbers grew day by day, bringing and hiding secrets for the next eons to surface... They followed, and Aphea's legacy as The Prophetess was born, this body emerged as The First Holy One.

Despite the visions of every conceivable catastrophe echoing in her ears for every fraction of a second, she is usually deemed as gentle. When faced with a sorrowful or angry soul, she understands even though she may not agree. She speaks softly to the young Cabals, and uses her collected powers and knowledge to narrate incredible stories to entertain them. She is firm when she must be, and fights fiercely, but for those she loves she will lay down and submit.

Aphea, though kind to her peers and followers, is incredibly unpredictable. She has no moral objections to executing actions that others would deem absolutely insane, or overly benevolent. In her eyes, it is all in the name of balance. Some followers tend to leave after seeing these actions, but those who stay learn to accept it, or find solace in its necessity. This trait of hers makes it difficult to form a strong relationship to most who have set morals and opinions, but for the few who do understand her, she cherishes every moment with them. She loves young minds for this reason.

The characteristic that seems to stand out the most for her followers is the same trait that allows her to blend in with the outside. When it comes to her past or a majority of her knowledge, her lips are as solid as stone. Not even her devoutest can shake an utter from her when she decides she would rather not speak of it. There are many theories of her, but even the strongest ones are only a guess until Aphea decides the time is right to share. This leaves her shrouded in much mystery... I wonder...
