"I just want a nice, easy life. What's wrong with wanting that?" His voice cracked, barely above a whisper.

He stood before a glass shard in his designated room, tears in his eyes as he nibbled at the dried dirt trapped underneath his claws. Once again, he was assigned the worst duty in the colony: digging duty. He hated getting his claws or any part of himself unclean; he outright refused to walk near mud or tend to the slime creations. He resigned to his room after his job was completed, not exactly having an appetite for meat. His head tipped up a bit, tilting to the side as his eyes met with the reflection staring back at him.

Orange eyes without a glimmer of light, bags shadowing underneath them. Perhaps if the situation were different he may have thought the clash of colors looked cool.

He looked tired. He sighed, shifting his gaze back to his claws, bringing them close to his mouth-

"Valiant," a voice began to speak behind him, causing him to flinch and tense, "biting your claws won't solve your problems. They'll just get dirty again tomorrow."

Knowing his fellow fae was right, he slowly brought down his hand, turning around just in time to see his friend leave.

This wasn't a room, it felt more like a prison than a place to find comfort. Slowly turning his head to the little pile of crinkled leaf specks in the corner, he made his way over and curled into himself. If he stayed here much longer, he couldn't take it.

He decided that night would be his last in this lair.

At the break of the night, underneath the shimmering blanket of stars above him, he stole a rogue uniform to shield the white of his body as he took flight.

He didn't care where he would end up; he knew that any other possible place would be safer than this.
