Biography

Elnan
be zealous

"I'm trying...really, I am..."

The expectation of a warrior is someone steadfast and brave. Elnan has one of these traits. He's a determined little one for sure, never giving up even if his goal is probably the least attainable for him. Despite this unwavering mindset, however, Elnan is anything but brave. Timid and shy are almost understatements though they make him almost universally endearing to anyone so long as they don't disdain them in particular. His lack of natural talent for his chosen lifepath has made him self-conscious and lacking in confidence which makes it all the more tragic that he's actually quite gifted in other areas. His nickname used by almost everyone in the clan - Elle, or sometimes Ellie - both makes him happy and unspeakably sad because while he has no doubt (though no idea why) his clan views him affectionately it's not quite what he was hoping for. Certainly doesn't make him sound fearsome, now does it?

It's not like his parents disliked him, it's just that little Elnan never felt like they particularly cared much either. They didn't outright abandon him when he proved nowhere near as talented as either of them at fighting - in fact they kept right on training him - but it still never felt like he was good enough. In one of his very rare cases of taking initiative, Elnan sought out a different trainer when he neared adulthood, hoping to one day show his parents that he was better than they thought.

Bisene grudgingly took him on, though hardly as an individual pupil. The grizzled trainer has made it known that he sees little potential in Elnan, one of the many he trains for Wildfire, but has at least a grudging respect for the fact that the younger Gaoler never gives up. Elnan has yet to realize that particular attribute might lend itself well to other endeavours, but in the meantime he remains fixated on military prowess.
