No one’s completely certain when or where Lichen came from. Naturally, he was born somewhere within the Viridian Labyrinth, but beyond that, not much is known. Instead of being asked to join the Autumna Woods Clan or born into it, Lichen instead inserted himself as a fixture in the clan’s daily life shortly after Aesop and Mishap took charge, often found hiding in burrows he digs himself. No one’s completely sure what Lichen does in the clan, either, spare make Aesop laugh and irritate the more sensible dragons.

Considered crazy, but harmless, Lichen speaks in fractured sentences and often switches from one topic to the next without warning, leaving his unwilling and willing discussion partners confused. His hobbies include hoarding plant life like mushrooms, and small creatures such as mice and birds.

Despite the initial language barrier, out of everyone in the Autumna Woods Clan, Sorbet has the highest success rate with deciphering what Lichen needs and wants. While their relationship is not without its rocky points, with miscommunication being the largest factor in their disagreements, the two also spend hour after hour chattering away at one another, and exploring the depths of the Viridian Labyrinth. Lichen is always the first to see Sorbet when the Coatl returns home, even going to extreme lengths to greet his mate through elaborate gifts and displays of affection.

Lichen considers Ridley a curiosity, more so than ever now that Ridley is grown. While Lichen preferred to care for Ridley when he was a hatchling, he truly believed in a claws-off approach when raising him. However, his distance should not be mistaken for lack of care--Lichen would defend Ridley to the death, and often lurks nearby when Ridley goes on “dangerous” excursions near home.

AESOP
Old Friend

When Aesop and Mishap found Lichen rooted in one of the trees in Autumna Woods, no one expected an unlikely friendship to take root. Aesop, who’s known for his listening skills, never minds Lichen’s insistent ramblings, and often accompanies him on treks through the forest to keep him company. In return, Lichen often brings gifts for the couple or new bits of humor he came up with for Aesop.
