Biography

Patterns upon patterns,
Swirls upon whirls
Spiralling, you twirl
Down and
Down
For eternity....

...You open your eyes as you feel something cold splash against your face.

Where am I?

The first thing that greets you is the gaping hole in the stone roof above you; a watery ray of light desperately tries to make its way through, the only thing lighting your surroundings.
All about you are shards of moss-strangled stone.
You were lucky not to seriously injure yourself in your fall.
Taking a deep breath you try not to recoil as the smell of rotting fauna and soaked stone hits you.

You sit up and the motion causes ripples to spread out around you.
You blink, noticing for the first time you are sat half in a shallow pool of water. The pathetic ray of light glints off the pool, making it sparkle a sickly green and brown.
The water is too muddied to see the bottom and you try to push away thoughts of something lurking in it's depths.
Looking around, you appear to be in a room made of stone.
Hear and there bits of pillar and wall have worn away and fallen, now sticking out of the water like reaching fingers.
Where the walls are not being smothered by vines and moss, you see intricate carvings that try as you might, you just do not recognize.
The longer you look at them, the more disturbed you feel.
They are old. Older than anything you've ever seen.

As you grasp a fallen bit of pillar and stand, you look around to find somewhere dry to get your bearings. But there are none.
You realize the water you're standing in is not a pool after all but the room is flooded knee-high.
You sigh.
Carefully, you scan the room, looking for a way out.... and that's when you see it.
In the farthest corner of a room, is a shadow.
And within that shadow stares two unblinking white eyes.

You jolt, throwing yourself back against the wall, scrabbling for purchase against the slimy wet moss.

The thing hiding in the shadows starts to wail quietly.

The sound sends goosebumps shooting up your arms.
Panicking, you scrabble further, trying to get one of the broken pillars inbetween you and whatever it is.
The water sloshes loudly around you, slapping at your knees and splashing the walls.
The wailing is slowly getting louder, until it's echoes seem to shake the vines hanging from the ceiling.
In your panic, you look behind you.
There is a hole in the wall!
You feel cold air rushing out from it.
It's only inches away from where you're standing, you'd only need to crouch to dash through.

What do you do?

DASH THROUGH THE HOLE / STAY BEHIND THE PILLAR

>Dash through hole

You crouch, ready to throw yourself through but suddenly the thing somehow screams right into your ear. Claws dig into your back, pushing you under the pool.
You scrabble wildly under the surface what feels like an eternity... then let go.
YOU HAVE DIED.

> Stay behind the pillar

Some instinct within you kicks in and you stop yourself from giving in to temptation. What was it the guide said? Some type of fae uses sound to spook you so they can hear where you are?
The wailing is still filling the room, you desperately want to cover your ears but you keep your hands to your sides.
The water stops sloshing around your legs and becomes still.
The wailing dies down a little.
You try not to jump as the thing emerges.
The murky colouring on it's hide makes it very difficult to see in this environment as it claws it's way across the walls.
A master at camouflage...
But this can't be! If this Fae is who you think it is, it's a RED level threat - not green!
Where exactly have you fallen?
And how will you get back?
The Fae suddenly flares its wings and glides across the water, alighting on the pillar directly in front of you.
Up close, the patterns on it's wings are mesmerizing... you feel like you could look at them forever. You find your mind wondering about what it would feel like to touch them - then snap out of it.
This is Newt, the one who's wings drive people to madness.
You can't stay here forever or you'll surely die- but the patterns! Oh god the patterns! How they seem to glide like swooping birds and twirl like ribbons and snakes and swa-
You're losing it.

In your half-mad haze, what do you do?

PUNCH IT / JUMP ON IT

>> Punch it

You punch Newt as hard as you can in the face. The small fae's head rocks back and it falls off the pillar, hitting the water with a loud splash. You glance around the pillar but do not see it where it's fallen, the cloudy pool obscuring it completely. After 30 seconds, there is no movement. Now's your chance! You crouch and crawl into the hole in the wall. The water is up to your neck as you squeeze through and you splutter as it sloshes up over your mouth and eyes.
Halfway through the hole you can now see stone steps in the room ahead, ascending out of the murky water.
You're almost there!
Too late.
A sharp claw digs into your calf, stopping you mid-crawl and you turn in horror.
The Fae's head burst out of the water behind you, it's scaly lips pulled back in a snarl.
It screams and you scrabble in panic.
In your panic, you manage to wrench your calf free and continue to hurry onward.
Behind you Newt splashes clumsily through the tunnel, flailing it's wings and claws to get at you.
You reach the stone steps and claw your way up them.
That's when a heavy weight crushes your legs.
You turn, Newt has trapped your legs underneath it and is ready to make the killing strike.
But you have the high ground.
Using the steps as leverage you trash your legs wildly - and one springs free!
Barely thinking, you lash your foot at the gnashing jaws of the Wyrfae - and land a solid blow directly on it's face.
Newt makes no sound as his weight leaves your legs and slowly slips into the water.
You make a mad dash up the steps and throw open the door at the top.
Sunlight blinds you but you don't care.
You rush through.

CONTINUE

>> Jump on it

It's now or never. You jump on Newt, making a mad grab for it's neck to hold it away from you. Newt screams and it thrashes about, claws ripping at your clothes, some leaving bloody marks. You both slide off the pillar and into the pool. Water seems to whirl around the two of you like a tornado as you wrestle for the upperhand. Newt remains firmly in your grip and you shove him under the water, fighting to keep him there.
Out of the corners of your eye you can't help but notice the squiggles on his wings as they thrash about.
They seem to flicker and dance at the corners of your vision, tempting you to look.
You risk a quick glance and-
They are so, so lovely. You think. And so bizarre too!
You reach out your hand to touch them...
... and Newt's neck is finally free.
He lunges forward to make the killing blow.
YOU HAVE DIED.
