Biography
All dragons care about their family. They love their mates if they have one, they care for their children if they have any, they see their children off if it's time for them to go. But for most of the dragons in the clan, that's as far as their devotion goes. Once a child leaves, it's understood that they might come back for a visit, but equally, and more likely that they won't be seen again.
Scout is the opposite of most dragons. He is family-oriented to an extreme, and his devotion to those who have left their home clan has cost him many of those who have stayed. He's obsessed with finding out how things are going with his children, going so far as to find where they've ended up and visit them. Often. Many times he's come home raving about a new great-grandchild that has been added to the family line or a child who's found a new mate and "possibly settled down for good this time!"
This love for his family is his downfall. His obsession cost him his first mate, who grew tired of the constant traveling and a mate who cared so much for those who had left but didn't seem to ever want to focus on her. It also cost him one who might have become his second, but despite the two hatching several nests together, he never stuck around long enough for them to get to know each other. Upon one return, he was told that she'd found another in the clan to mate with.
All he had to say was "that's nice."
It's thought that Scout's obsession with knowing what's going on in his extended family stems from the fact that he knows nothing of those who came before him. His mother never spoke of where she came from, and was gone before he ever thought to ask. But in his own way, he's making up for that lack of family knowledge now...
