The Ambassador
____As your travels take you through the Starwood, you pause. Looking around, you don’t immediately notice anything out of the ordinary here in this densely wooded stretch. The wind dances through the treetops far above, and the shadows play their wild spinning games throughout the layers of the canopy. ____But a shifting of the light lands on a trunk near you. Finally, you realize what’s put you on edge. What makes this section of the Strand different– what’s been staring at you this whole time. ____Eyes.
____Newly carved in the bark, sap welling in its recesses and glistening in the ray of light, is a simple glyph of an eye. You begin tune in to your surroundings more clearly, and find eyes staring back at you from every direction: carved into the trees, into the dirt, painted on the underside of leaves, and– although you didn’t notice it before– also from the treetops: from the faces of the many dragons hidden in their nests. Their eyes glitter with recognition, as they notice you noticing them.
____Before you can think on that too much, another dragon swoops down, stopping a respectful distance away from you. He’s a vibrant purple Tundra, and he stands humble, but resolute. He leaves his wings relaxed and widespread. His many, many wings. Far more wings than you. In fact, you’re having trouble keeping track of just how many wings, and how many eyes, this eye-searingly purple dragon has: it’s almost as if he shifts, in and out of reality. More parts one second, less the next. As a Tundra, he isn’t particularly large… But this effect is unsettling. Imposing. 
____“My name is Keen, and I welcome you to these lands. Know that you pass under the Watch of the Arcane. So long as you respect those around you, you are welcome to stay for as long or as little as you’d like.” He bows briefly, and folds his wings. But even though he’s taking up less space, his shifting, countless-eyed presence is no less disquieting. Although he is clearly taking pains to appear more relaxed and approachable, and appears to be waiting for your reaction.
