Rigel

Named after one of the largest stars in the galaxy, Rigel felt a large burden on his shoulders. What if he couldn't produce his blue flame? Would his clan cast him out, spit on him or make fun of his inability to breath out the fire the star gods blessed him with?

Rigel wasn't stupid, he knew something was wrong with him. He could tell by the way his clanmates looked at him. Before his ceremony they all smiled at him, but now they cowered in fear. He knew something happened during the ceremony, something dark. But, Rigel couldn't quite put his claw on it.

When he was finally in the silent solitude of his own den, rigel had a thought. He should do the fire ritual one more time, maybe this time he could get it right and make his clanmates adore him again. And so he did. Long whisps of dark blue flame soared from Rigels nostrils and mouth. It felt right, but it didn't look right. The flames he had conjured only a moment before were turning a deep shade of purple. Something was wrong. Really wrong.

Rigel tried to stop the whisps of purple flames. But they wouldn't stop.

They. Just. Kept. Growing.

Eventually, in panic, Rigel flew from his den with now black flames encircling him. The flames twisted around his torso as if they were a snake going in for the kill. Then, all of a sudden, Rigel fell. He didn't know why. He hadn't planned on diving towards the ground. He was getting closer, and closer towards the grassy fields he once called home.

It was hard to tell if he hit the dirt or not. Rigels chest was burning as it filled with smoke of the ever present black flames. Apparently, he had fallen close to a swamp of some sort. Rigel plunged his face into the murky water, and when he rose back up for air the flanes were gone. Only the smoke tokd of their short existance. Rigel took a breath of relief. It was time to go home.

Little did Rigel know that his clan grounds had burned to the ground during his adrenalin fueled flight. For as we know, Rigel still walks on the clan ground he had burned all those years ago. He walks alone. As alone as the blazing blue star he was named after.
