The den was quiet, and dim, and she thought that nobody was in. Peeking her head briefly into the lair, she started to turn away and ask Edison about where he was, but her eyes caught a dull haze within the darkness. Swallowing, and exhaling in an attempt to calm her jitters, she pushed past the vines, and padded towards the light. Rounding the corner, there he was. Plumes of magic spurted from his mouth, items around his frame floating slowly. His head was buried in a book, and she spotted a quill writing long letters of ink onto fresh parchment beside him.
"A-Astraea?" She murmured, and the haze around the objects faltered. Thinking quickly, she took them with her own, a brighter pink to his magenta, and she relaxed when nothing smashed. The Skydancer turned, an angry frown on his face. "What do you think you are doing, strutting into my lair without a warning?" He growled, his magic again pushing her's aside, and she lost grips on what had been floating. "I, um-" She was cut off quickly by the hot-headed dragon, who was now sweeping around the back of the den, returning items to their homes, before he paused, and turned to loom over her. "Who are you?" His eyes seemed to look over her frame, but she couldn't properly tell, with the lack of pupils. Their gazes locked, and he tensed. "Ah. Faceted... You're StarStrung, aren't you." Quietly, she nodded. He hummed, and she could feel his irritation fade. "Apologies. It has been a stressful couple of days. You rather took me by surprise, too. Lenis did not predict your arrival until tomorrow." He sat back, all items gone from the air, and she reluctantly lowered herself on her haunches as well. "I got away from my clan early, the preparation for flying here didn't take as long as they thought it would. I flew through the night." Her voice was still shaky, as she explained, wringing her claws, gaze on the ground. "I see. Well, we will not start the training today, if I had known, I would have prepared myself." "That's alright, I would have sent word if I could, but my messenger was occupied." Comfortable silence begun between them, and she took that moment to look around. The place was not as dark as before, plants growing on ledges on the walls had illuminated, and she realised that the flowers were the things glowing. There were shelves of old looking books, and papers lay scattered around, some piling high in corners. "I haven't had the den for long. Our old ambassador left to work alongside the Arcanist, and I was next. Most of the books and papers I haven't read, but I'm getting there. That is what I was doing earlier." Astraea noticed her observance, and she made a hum of acknowledgement, still peering around the room. "How long have they permitted your stay?" He asked, and she swallowed again, not meeting his gaze. "Um. Petal and Darmie have decided that I will not be returning to the clan." Astraea felt a pang of guilt towards asking the question, and he cleared his throat. "Well, I am sure that Edison and the rest of us will gladly accept you into our clan. You are welcome to stay as long as you wish." His softer tone made her look up, and she nodded, forcing a smile. "Thank you." Pausing, she rubbed her eyes, and sniffed, "Right then. Could I have a tour?" StarStrung is quite a character. Her personality varies depending on her mood, or the environment around her. Most of the time, she is a bubbly, happy dragon, but when upset, she can be sluggish, tearful, and potentially snap at someone that may be trying to help. She has better control over her magic than Astraea had at her age, and has been able to use it since she reached adolescence. Despite her small size, she is not to be messed with on the best of days, even if she is in a good mood, as her magic is a strong aid in all of her tasks, and can become intimidating if needed. Although her Wispwillow Peryton is not related to her flight, it tends to help her calm down, with it's gentle glow in the night. The little deer is called Somnus, as she helps StarStrung fall asleep on most nights, when she has trouble doing so. Many would argue due to her not being of the shadow flight, she should not be able to see the deer, only a bundle of hazy lights, but due to her faceted eyes, it is a different story, and she can see the Wispwillow very clearly. |
