ETYMOLOGY.
Not his birth name, but an identity given to himself when his original clan broke apart. His birth name was Phobos.

A scruffy and scarred tundra who hardly looks like an important figure (and honestly, he prefers it that way).

Clanless for many years, Heron eked out a self-sufficient life in the Gladeveins as a proficient fisher, selling plump crayfish and baskets of minnows to established clans and travelers alike. It was hard work, but gave him an intimate knowledge of both the Gladeveins and his own resilience.

However, a particularly difficult day came when he accidentally got on the wrong side of a molten wartoad protecting its spawn. Badly burned on his face and legs, he dragged himself to the safety of a nearby glen and collapsed - exhausted, in agony. Rustling footsteps drew his attention and he tensed, preparing to make one last stand for his life against some opportunistic scavenger. But it was the face of a young guardian that filled his view, one with opalescent scales. He remembered wings casting a soft green shadow over him before finally passing out.

When he came to, the guardian had clumsily wrapped his wounds in leaves and was pouring water over them. It was a nice effort, but it hurt like hell, and he promptly kicked the other dragon in the face. This resulted in more pain, and a lot of cursing on both sides. The guardian threatened to eat him, ungrateful scrap of fluff. Heron wasn't fazed. They were fast friends.

Heron stayed with the other as he healed. The pale guardian was Io, and she had been inexorably drawn to this glen, believing it to be her charge. Even after Heron's burns scarred over, he stayed. The two are sometimes mates, sometimes not, but they still hold a deep affection for each other.
