After being released from the lair she was born to, the young spiral wandered through the territories, fending for herself. After a few months of wandering, the unnamed spiral stumbled upon an island awash in the great sea. Thinking of it as a good place to rest for the night, she landed and started to assemble a small nest. The pink stones she had gathered had a soft glow to them. As she settled down for the night, a large shadow made its way across the ground. She looked up only to see the starry sky. The shadow approached and cast darkness across her little nest. Had landing here been a mistake? The shadow grew bigger as it circled downward. A large guardian appeared from the background of the starry sky, only visible from the oily black pattern spreading across his scales. The spiral was dwarfed by the guardian’s large size and she could feel the weight of the winds stirred by his wings as he landed. The small spiral prepared for a fight as the guardian looked her over. “Why have you come here?” The guardian’s voice was loud but held a certain kindness. He arched his head down to get a better look at the newcomer. The feisty little spiral snarled and backed up. A large sigh came from the guardian “My name is Keplar of the Hollowed Caves. Will you be staying a while?” The smaller dragon relaxed and spoke “I have no name. I have nowhere else to go.” The guardian nodded and withdrew his head. “Follow me. I can take you to a proper nest.” The small spiral looked down at the scattered pink stones and dried grasses that she had gathered. She looked to the guardian as he offered a large claw to climb up. The spiral attached and coiled around one of the large claws, carefully tucked into his palm. Keplar took to the sky with a mighty flap of his wings and blended back into the darkened night sky.

Finally curled into a warm and proper nest, the spiral began to look around at the fire-lit walls. The stone walls of the cave appeared to soak up the light of the night as it had a faint purple glow. The large guardian that had picked her up is now standing, looking over the ancient carvings scattered along the walls. “If you wish to stay, you should choose a name. There are many here if you look.” He spoke low and soft in consideration of the other sleeping dragons in the other rooms. Keplar scanned the wall until his eyes rested upon a familiar sketch of some sort of device. “This here is where I got my name from. A stargazer crafted long ago. They named it Keplar.” The guardian looked back at the small spiral before letting out a long sigh, as she had already fallen asleep. He nudged a blanket over the small dragon with the tip of his claw. “Sleep well, lone traveler.

After a few days of adjusting to the new lair, the spiral finally found their place. They were summoned by the nest leader soon after. The young dragon found herself along with Keplar in a small cave, only big enough for Keplar to squeeze his head in. They were soon joined by a pale and patterned spiral. The small fae sat perched on a high nest but spoke loud and clear. “You three” her voice as kind as a fae could be “Have been selected to protect this island. In recent days, we’ve had a few visitors I’m not particularly fond of.” Although she spoke sweetly, the frills along her neck flared in displeasure. “Because of your skills, you will be tasked with slaying any creatures that may come close enough to harm the young hatchlings. But first, you need a name.” Her piercing pink eyes focused on the sky-patterned spiral. “You have until the end of the night. Any longer and another will take your place. That is all.” With a flick of a wing, the small fae dismissed the three. Keplar withdrew his head and the pale spiral followed. The newest member of the lair flew off to their own nest that they shared with the large guardian. She spent the rest of her day reading through the foreign script scrawled along the walls for some semblance of a name. That evening, the guardian returned and watched for a few moments before looking to an illustration looking similar to the one he got his own name from. After a few moments of deciphering and deliberation, he spoke. “Chandra.” The spiral jumped and turned to him. He repeated himself “Chandra. That is the name of this creation.” The spiral flew over to the image lovingly carved into the glowing stone. The young spiral perched on the guardian’s large head and gazed upon the carving. She spoke quietly “Chandra…” She liked the sound of that. After spending a few minutes mulling it over in her mind before taking off to speak with the leaders of the nest. She entered the softly glowing cavern and the small fae peers from her nest. “Yes?” Although her voice was unamused, her frills showed her true curiosity at the entrance. The spiral spoke clearly “Chandra. This is my name.” The fae looked to her mate, a purple-colored mirror adorned with various remains of birds and beading. The dragon gave a nod “Make it so.” He spoke with a sort of snarl, although the spiral knew it was not out of hate. The fae spoke quickly and simply “Done. You may go.” The spiral, now named Chandra, took off with newfound confidence to head back to her own nest.

It wasn’t long before the three dragons formed a close bond and sharpened their skills as warriors. Although Keplar mostly kept to himself, the other spiral, Divantae, was pleasantly social. She had marks that reminded Chandra of the scribings from her and Keplar’s nest. She adorned her claws, tail, and wings with pale thorns and roses, and fastened a beautiful pale blue rose with a bit of lace to one of her horns. Divantae was only slightly smaller than Chandra and was white with pale grey jaguar markings. Chandra admired the way she fought, elegant, yet effective. In the den, she was often found drinking tea and watching over the younger hatchlings. Over time, Chandra and Divantae grew closer. They spent most of their time together out on missions and even started nesting together. After a while, Keplar decided to retire from battle to focus on his scripts and cave scrawlings, further researching their origin and meaning. A dragon of a different breed was added to their team. A gaoler called FrostBite approached the pair with an offer. “Train me to fight.” Her voice gravelly and brimming with determination. “I wish to prove myself and serve the gods.” Chandra let out a wicked laugh “Serve the gods? Do you think they even care?” Divantae shot her a mean glare. Chandra froze at the sudden harshness of the usually kind spiral. Divantae refocused up at the large gaoler “We’d love to help you. You may join our party if the leaders wish it.” The gaoler headed off without a word and reappeared later for the evening patrol. After a few weeks of cooperation, the three trained their skills to the best of their ability. Often, the two spirals would coil themselves around the horns of the larger dragon in order to travel together faster.
