Lost, forgotten, cast away or perhaps stollen and dropped. It's difficult to say how this spiral's egg managed to find itself down a deep crevis in the plague lands. Warmed on a bed of soft rotting vegetation and the decaying bodies of creatures that had fallen to their doom, the egg eventually hatched and the baby spiral crawled out into darkness and filth. He knew only the scent of death so he grew accustomed to it and also developed a taste for decomposing flesh as he grew. When his body was strong enough he slithered out of this deep crevis and out into the light, so much light that at first, he wasn't sure if he liked it or not. Day after day he ventured further from the comfort of his desolate den to see new places and dragons.

The very first dragon he met made commented quite strongly on his 'horrendous breath' and hideous appearance. One can not look their best after living in a den filled with decaying bodies and plants. It wasn't his fault but it did help him decide on what to call himself once he managed how to speak.
