Ivy is the calm to the thief gang’s storm. From aloe to ficus to herbs for her special teas, her lair resembles a dense, leafy jungle. This gentle Wildclaw leads a life of tranquility. Each morning, she wakes early enough to tend to her garden. She finds relaxation amongst the roots and leaves. The sun filters in through large glass windows, bathing everything in a delicate golden glow. The glow matches the delicate flowers that have begun to bloom across her wings and torso– a gift from mother nature herself. Ivy’s claws are often caked in dirt from the time she spends caring for her little forest. She can make almost anything grow. Hatchlings love to play amongst the plants. They roll around in leaf piles and help her harvest anything edible. She’s the caretaker of the clan, treating everyone with warmth and kindness. No one has anything negative to say about her. She brings a sense of calm to anyone she speaks with, making her one of the most beloved thieves in the pack. She is a true delight. In other words, everyone adores Ivy– and Ivy adores everyone in the clan.
It would be foolish to mistake Ivy’s gentleness for weakness. She seems peaceful and easygoing most of the time, but within her beats the heart of a warrior. She is fiercely protective over the dragons she loves and will fight hard to defend them. She’s as skilled with a sword as she is with a garden hoe, making her a dangerous opponent. Ivy dodges every strike and meets each blow with a swift parry. To watch her spar is to witness an intricate dance. She has honed her abilities through intense discipline and labor. She often speaks of how her garden gives her the peace of mind she needs to win her battles. Whenever she’s up against a difficult opponent, she imagines herself meditating with a cup of tea, surrounded by her plants. This gives her the determination she needs to finish off her enemies. Ivy does not fight for glory, nor does she fight in response to anger. Instead, she fights to maintain the balance and tranquility she craves. Every slash and swipe brings her one step closer to that steaming cup of tea. She often wonders what it would be like if she never had to fight another battle. If only that day would come sooner. Until then, she swings her sword in tandem with the rest of Zack’s crew, battling to keep a hold on her freedom. For freedom is something she had to earn many years ago.
When she first met Zack, Ivy tried to apprehend him. She was a mercenary hired to bring him in for a nice pot of gold. There was a rhododendron bush she’d had her eye on for some time. She intended to pay for it with Zack’s bounty money. She had spent weeks stalking him, learning his patterns and behaviors before approaching. He had felt someone watching him, but didn’t quite know who it was. From the second Ivy swung her sword at him, he was impressed. He hadn’t seen such skill with a blade since… well, himself. They circled each other like wolves, danced, leapt, and laughed with joy at finally finding a worthy opponent. After the fight was over and Zack managed to slip away, Ivy promised she’d be back for another round. The king of thieves told her he looked forward to their next meeting. This happened again and again until Zack eventually invited Ivy to join the gang. At first, she hesitated. She didn’t love her life as a mercenary. Running about doing dirty deeds for wealthy dragons was tedious and immoral. She hated the lords and loyals she worked for. Yet mercenary work meant stability. So long as a rich dragon wanted another dragon captured or killed, there would be bread on Ivy’s table. She let Zack know that she’d think on it and would send word once she had decided. When she returned home that night, there was a gift waiting for her outside the door. It was the pricey rhododendron bush she’d been coveting. Attached to one of the branches was a little note: For the expert swordsdragon, from your friend, Z. She made her decision then and there. Ever since that day, she’s run with Zack’s group of thieves, robbing the nobles she used to serve. She can finally rest and relax. She has days off. Her garden is blooming. Everything she has hoped for in life has come true. Her next goal? Retirement from fighting completely. She has a long way to go before she can put away her blade. Until then, she’s content with the bountiful life she leads.
