Merun can produce a powerful humming bass sound, while still being able to sing and play an instrument, and can move even the most stoic Guardian to tears with his music. His songs often deal with themes of longing and unwavering persistence.

When he is not currently singing, Merun has slight troubles with speaking as sometimes a hiss enters his voice, and sometimes he stumbles while walking.

***

Once a Serthis of the Driftwood Drag, Merun befriended the wandering bard Imrietus, a Wildclaw. Merun accompanied him for years to learn his craft, his marvelous singing voice perfectly complimenting Imrietus' compositions.

As time stretched on, Merun found with horror that his lingering affection for the dragon only grew stronger - their pact was supposed to be one of a dragon and his beastfolk familiar, yet Merun had fallen deeply in love with the bard. And while he knew Imrietus cared deeply for him in return, defending him from any other dragon who had their prejudices against beastfolk, Merun also felt that they'd never be able to be truly together - in their line of work, or with Imrietus accepting him as an adequate life-mate - as long as they were separated by species.

And thus, Merun scrapped together all his earnings, scavenged for the rest, and managed to acquire a Scroll of Change. Those were meant for dragons, but their magic was potent, and after he begged and pleaded his case to the master alchemist, he was agreed his help. Merun now has aquired the shape of a very snake-like coatl, with a body that is slightly to long for his size. He still has to wear magical copper jewelry to stabilize the spell, but he mostly passes as a dragon.

Unfortunately, the change had robbed him of his singing voice, replaced by the humming sounds of a Coatl he had no experience with whatsoever. Mute in the beginning, he has slowly learned to communicate and speak again, even though it will probably take him years to regain his voice. He cares little for this setback, however, as he has reached his goal of being a member of the not-quite-drowned and Imrietus' beloved mate.
