Biography

A creature of torn natures. It senses others' deepest thoughts that they dare not say.

The Cure

DOUBLE MIRACLE GRANDBAB!

Tensions were high when Itzal first arrived in the Stormtide Clan -hoping to meet it grandparents and learn more about them.

Through its encounters with the clan's denizens, Itzal learned that Laraquae, the clan matriarch, was deathly ill from something called the Wyrmfever.

It knew little about the fever, save the hidden thoughts it glanced from others.

The plague had nearly destroyed the clan whilst they fled to the Scarred Wasteland. Witch, the clan shaman, had managed to find a way to slow the progression of the malady, but only after it had left a deep scar on the clan. Over half of the clan's inhabitants had succumbed to it - tired and weak from fleeing their old home - following a coordinated attack by local maren schools during a fierce storm.

Something about this knowledge drew Itzal to Laraquae. Despite repeated warnings from Witch, Itzal snuck in and met with the Matriarch. The guardian's breathing was laboured, her form thin, and blue scales dulled and missing in patches.

A deep blue and red-scaled ridgeback lay curled around the Matriarch. His red eyes snapped open as Itzal entered the den. Even as a Plague dragon, he too showed similar signs of illness... likely from prolonged proximity with the sick matriarch.

The ridgeback raised his head high as Itzal cautiously slunk towards them.

"What do you want?" he growled lowly. Struggling slightly, he raised up to a sitting position, covering the Matriarch protectively with a wing.

Itzal perched upright, curling its tail around it. It tilted its head as it noted the weary look in the ridgeback's eyes.

Just leave. I'm too tired for this. I want to be alone for the few days I have left my mate.

Itzal blinked, slowly pointing at the Matriarch.

The ridgeback glared down at the speck of a dragon before him. "Did Atropos send you?" The old crone will probably be thrilled to hear the news of Lara's decline.

Itzal quickly shook its head, nervously grabbing the end of its tail in claws.

"Then what?"

The spiral wrung its tail for a moment, thinking quietly. The only sounds in the den were the labored breathing of the slumbering matriarch and the shifting of the ridgeback's claws on the stone floor.

"I don't have time for this," the ridgeback craned his neck down at Itzal, spiked nose inches away from its face.

Itzal dropped his tail with a startle. The ridgeback raised his wings reflexively.

>Itzal approached, There's nothing you can do, just leave.

>Hesitantly placed a hand on Laraquae's hide. Pain, suffering, loss. The intensity of all those emotions made Itzal's head swim. It jerked its hand away, a shiver running through its form.

>Savatam warily watched Itzal's every move, eyes narrowed.

>Itzal repeated the motion, managed to touch the matriarch a few seconds longer before it pulled its claws back. The room was swimming, dark spots dancing around the edges of its vision.

>It did it one more time before Savatam snapped at it.

>Itzal blinked at Savatam, opened his mouth and closed it a few times. Its voice was soft and raspy, as if unaccustomed to speaking.

"Help," it stared up at Savatam determinedly, pointing again at Laraquae.

>The voice echoed, magnitudes louder inside Savatam's head, and he recoiled a bit from the sheer intensity.

>Witch heard this too, came in to make sure things were ok. She helped figure out what Itzal was trying to do over the course of a very arduous dialogue.

>Witch sent for Enara, an Arcane-born coatl who came to the clan with an illness that was incredibly similar to the Wyrmfever.

>Enara had been living with her symptoms for years now, and without any sort of medicine or herbal remedy to stem the progression of the sickness. Witch had been using Enara as a test subject in hopes of finding a cure for Laraquae and the other dragons quarantined away.

>It's at this time that Morgana, one of Laraquae's daughters, admitted to Witch that she had also been sick with a strain of the fever, sneaking some of her mentor's herbs from time to time in order to make remedy of her own. She had hidden it all this time, hoping to find a way to help her mother - knowing Witch would not approve of Morgana's reckless method of testing on herself.

>Witch began to work. Itzal sat nearby, saying nothing.

>Occasionally, it darted forward, grasping Witch's arm in it claws to stop her from adding something to the mix.

>Other times, peering around Witch's den curiously, it spotted something in Witch's stores, flitting over and digging around until it found what it was looking for, handing it to Witch to add.

>Witch tried the mixtures on Enara, waited, and tossed it if it did nothing.

>Sometimes, Itzal dug through the pile of failed remedies, taking sprigs of herbs and pinches of powder to toss into Witch's cauldron, seemingly at random.

>Morgana came and went the times that she was strong enough, gathering materials to bring back to Witch.

>Itzal visited Laraquae from time to time.

>It would grasp her large head and place its forehead against her own.

>Savatam was always on alert when the spiral was around, but he started to relax slightly over time as he noticed that Laraquae seemed to breathe easier after Itzal did its strange ritual.

>It took weeks. They spent the last few days working tirelessly without sleep before they make a minor breakthrough.

>It didn't cure the fever, but it brought Laraquae's symptoms down enough that they bought themselves more time.

>They eventually found a cure of sorts, but it took a lot of Itzal's time and magic to make it potent.

>Witch, Itzal, Enara, and Morgana were all exhausted by this time. They finally slept in a heap together for days.

>Witch's mate, Moonghoul, came by and watched over the four while they rested.

>He escorted Witch and Itzal to the matriarch periodically in order to administer more medicine. Moonghoul carried Itzal on his back to and from the den because the poor spiral was so tired.

>By the time they were all rested, Laraquae was awake and able to sit up. She was slowly recovering from months of the the plague whittling away at her strength.

>It took many more months before they found an effective remedy for the fever that could be made and administered far easier.

Children of Eleum and Loyce are followed wherever they go by fireflies, even underwater. They are often softspoken and shy, but open up readily once settled into their clans. Powerful telepaths, these dragons will often be in constant telepathic communication with their mates or a close friend, finding it easier to communicate without the use of their voice.

This dragon has a venomous bite that can make their enemies dangerously ill or outright kill them, should you so choose. They are also highly resistant to most poisons, and outright immune to some.

Born of the murky waters where the lands of Plague, Water, and Shadow meet, this dragon also has a resistance to diseases, and in fact coming into contact with them might make other dragons mildly ill for a few days until they build up an immunity to this dragon's taint!

Being a Miretooth dragon, they will willingly expose themselves to new toxins and illnesses bit by bit until they are no longer affected by them. Dragons in their clan may enjoy the benefits of a mild form of group immunity, as the oils from this dragon's skin will inevitably leach a weakened form of whatever new toxin or disease this dragon is currently building resistance to.

In battle, should you choose that direction for your lore, this dragon will be a vicious and cunning opponent, utilizing mild forms of Shadow magic to blend into their surroundings. They prefer to ambush their enemies, and strongly prefer close quarters combat in order to utilize their venomous bite.

If you would rather this dragon be a healer or other noncombative class, that's absolutely fine! Their venom can be added in minute quantities to salves and tonics to prevent infections in the wounds they are applied to, and Miretooth dragons do know a good amount about soothsaying, astrology, and other forms of fortune telling, given that their oldest members were originally peaceful Water dragons.[/size]
