🙤 Lore History 🙦
Abducted by the forces of the Shade, Corvus hatched in Earth's domain, the Dragonhome, and his deep brown eyes betray this fact. It consistently surprises those who know him only by reputation, for shouldn't a shadow-walker hail from the Tangled Woods? But no, Corvus met the world in the mines of Cairnstone Rest, and found himself part of a captive population, the Clan Lycaeus made to serve in the mines to atone for their ancestors' treason against the Clan Kiavahr. This downtrodden people took in the foundling, who from the first strove wholeheartedly against his captors. He found something of a sister in [whatshername lol], who bestowed upon the hatchling his name, meaning Raven, a symbol of freedom and deliverance to Clan Lycaeus.

Corvus harnessed his magical gift early and easily. He is a Shadow-Walker of the finest caliber, though the meaning of this skill is sorely misunderstood beyond the bounds of its traditional practitioners in the Shadow Clans. A Shadow-Walker does not merge with his environment, as is often assumed. No, it is a magic of mind and of suggestion. Any living thing which lays eyes upon a Walker is simply convinced that he is not there, and a sentient mind scrambles to find some rational reason to explain any disturbance the Walker has caused in his passing. Corvus first used this trick to hunt additional food for his Clanmates, then began to slip out of the active mining areas to learn the secrets of Clan Kiavahr, that he might free his family. He learned quickly that synthetic intelligences are immune to the skills of the Walker, and Kiavahr, hailing originally from the Ashfall Waste and thus accomplished smiths, possessed such creations in abundance.

Corvus had no room to get cocky, and he picked his every move with patience and cunning. He spread his dreams and goals and simply his sense of hope among all the subjugated Clans and families in the deep mines, and when the time was right, they struck out against their masters. In short time, the mines belonged to free dragons, and Kiavahr withdrew. Following their frightened footsteps was a great golden Imperial whose eyes shone so brightly that the rebels, having rarely if ever seen sunlight, were paralyzed by his glance. All save Corvus, who saw in the Imperial's movements a grave and ancient sorrow, even a weariness. And it seemed to him that this Emperor of Light's eyes did not gleam from within with the aura of his Goddess the Lightweaver, but were truly a simple brown like his own, tired but kindly. So when the Emperor declared himself Corvus's true father, Corvus believed with all his heart.

But he refused his father's offer to come home, for the battle against Clan Kiavahr had not been truly won, and his dragons still needed him. The Emperor nodded solemnly, and imparted to his newfound son a piece of ancient magic that would serve him well. Then he left Corvus to his task, which was no longer freedom now but vengeance. For generations Clan Lycaeus and its allies had been tortured, in the name of supposed sins none alive had committed nor even knew of. It was not enough merely to live freely in the dungeons of their former prison. The Delivered Clans wanted a true home, and they followed their former persecutors to their den. Corvus wielded the energy magic his father had given him admirably, if not with precision, considering it was not of his natural element, and learned that day what war was. When it was over, Corvus found his father waiting, proud but still so, so tired, and he accepted the Emperor's gift of an army, provided he only ever be called to use it in defense of the innocent and the oppressed.

This request was not always honored. Corvus found himself invading the self-sufficient and resource-rich Clan Istvaan, and in the puppet leader he installed at his father's wish he laid the seed for his own defeat years later on the same battlefield. Indeed, Corvus was one of the first to doubt his foremost brother Horus's intentions, when Horus's tactics cost Corvus and his followers many casualties only for Horus to grab the glory of victory himself. When Horus turned traitor, Corvus struck back with his brothers Ferrus and Vulkan beside him. But they were outnumbered and further betrayed on the now-wasted fields of Istvaan's territory. Corvus fought his own brother Lorgar and nearly bested him, until his own dark twin Konrad intervened. Corvus swore that they would meet again, and even now stalks any hint of his twisted brother's presence.

After the battle, Corvus was distraught at the sacrifice of his loyal dragons and begged his father for some speck of magic that might restore them. With great reticence, the Emperor taught Corvus what he knew of necromancy, and Corvus set to work. At first it seemed the ritual might succeed, as the first few reborn dragons seemed normal. But the taint of treason and of the Shade left further reanimated Raven Guard foul pretenses of what they had been in life. Corvus's brother Alpharius convinced the Delivered Clans that Corvus had become a tyrant himself, so they turned on him, destroying his laboratory and twisting the surviving Raptor dragons into Shadeborn whom Corvus had to fight to the death to escape.

Following this harrowing experience, Corvus swore never again to tread this darkest of paths. Feeling an intense need to atone for his sins, and seeing a truth in the accusations of his former family, he left his army and undertook a solo quest beyond the bounds of Sornieth, seeking his fallen brothers and the monstrous Shades which now control them. Some say he prowls the outer worlds alongside his brother Leman, others claim he is followed by an immense flock of Death Seekers under his command.

For all his stealthy attributes, Corvus is a direct communicator. He calls it as he sees it and is willing to butt heads if that's what it takes to have an honest conversation. He is devoted to a sense of justice and calls himself a revolutionary first and foremost. But he is also a tortured soul, given to strong mood swings and periods of great guilt and doubt. He does not handle failure well, and it has always been a struggle for him to reconcile his own identity with the role his father has entrusted him, the role for which he was born. Sometimes he is convinced he has seen the truth of what the Emperor really is - and in fact he could arguably be counted among the closest to his father of all his brothers - but in the end it is simple fact that his father is a greater tyrant than any other dragonkind has ever known. Corvus can only hope that his reasons are good enough, and that he himself can save enough lives to make it all worth it.
