Restless was abandoned when he was younger, left alone when the clan had migrated to the Earthshaker's domain. His wings were injured, so he was unable to follow. Forced to survive on his own in an empty, eerie Lair, his anger grew.
When he had healed up, he made his way to the new Lair, his rage practically scorching the ground beneath him. When he entered the Lair, he let out a shriek of pure anger. He then burst out into violence, attacking Ruler, Innocence, and Rhythm, the Leaders at the time. During his outburst, Gadget had joined him, aiding him in taking down Ruler and Rhythm after he had defeated Innocence. He took Innocence's crown and Ruler's standard, and claimed that he would be Leader from now on. He allowed Gadget to join him in power, and deemed he'd rule the clan with an iron fist.
A while after this, a civil war broke out. Restless' side of the clan versus Xue's side of the clan. Amongst the huge battle, Xue and Restless fought, using every ounce of strength and anger they had to aid them. Restless nearly defeated Xue, he nearly KILLED her, when a familiar dragon appeared. Dizzy, Xue's grandson, had materialized between the two. His expression was blank, yet his anger was clear. He let out a scream which shook the ground and made every other dragon freeze. He and Restless engaged in battle, yet Restless couldn't set a claw on him due to his spiritual form. This lead to Restless' defeat, and he was promptly arrested and forced into jail, to remain there forever.
He was soon released, along with Charm, for unknown reasons. However a few days after, he was placed in the mental hospital by his close friend, Alchemy. He suffers from depression due to the mistreatment he experienced from his parents, and the trauma of being left behind and forgotten by the entire clan while injured, forced to survive by himself. He's showing vague improvement, yet is often stuck in a deep depression due to his past and the loss of his lover. However, he's starting to show a very faint interest in Prowl.. possibly because she reminds him of Starlight.
Due to hanging out with pretty much only Pearlcatchers for so long, Restless is convinced he's a PC too. This has pushed him into an identity crisis. Sometimes he just forgets he's a Mirror, other times he does extremely horrible things to his body to make him look more like a PC. Alchemy had gifted him a PC mask and his very own pearl to help him cope, yet it's gradually becoming more hurtful than he meant it to.
Restless has even attempted to go through surgeries to turn him into a Pearlcatcher, yet was forced to stop when one almost lead to his death. Said surgery was supposed to have given him the ability to produce the ooze PCs use to develop their pearls. Although it was seen as a failure, it HAS given him the ability to make surfaces extremely shiny and pearly. Others have yet to notice.
He recovered for the most part, at least until his son attacked him. Lonesome, fueled by nothing but rage, had assaulted Restless. He had torn out Restless' eye, broke his arm, gave him an even worse limp, and even caused him to develop slight brain damage. Restless now struggles with his memory every now and then, and is currently in the hospital so he can recover. However, due to the attack, his mental state broke down. He despises himself, blames himself for the deaths or problems of his friends and family, and even believes that it was HIMSELF that killed Starlight, rather than Clockwork. So whenever he's not in the hospital for his physical health, he's in the mental hospital for his mental health. Al is doing everything he can to help, but so is Al's brother, Charm, who is working with Andromeda to try and improve the emotional health of the mental hospital patients.
He does have a partner to help him through his pain though, Poem. It took Restless a while to find someone else he likes, and took him even longer to realize that he's fine with dating men, but the two have a genuinely loving relationship!
