A Z U R E

The First Outcast

There is a herd of Dunhoof in the Scorched Forest that, instead of allying themselves with any dragon flights, follow the ideas of Talona and are aggressive towards dragonkind. When they get their hands on the eggs of smaller species, they will hatch the eggs and keep the dragons as pets. In the home of one Wintermane Spearman, lived one such dragon - a small lightning Fae.

For the first few years of his life, Azure lived with the Dunhoof, spending the majority of his time in a cage. When let out, he was always restrained, and his entire purpose was entertainment for the centaurs.

One fateful day, his centaur captor didn't fully latch the door of the cage, and Azure managed to unhook it and escape. Unused to life in the outside world, he traveled short distances at a time. He learned from some other dragons he came across that he was part of the lightning flight, who serve the dragon god the Stormcatcher. Looking for some kind of path to take in his newly freed life, Azure made his way to the Shifting Expanse, planning on serving his new god in whatever way he could.

After many weeks of travel, he finally made it to the Shifting Expanse, but the lack of trees to glide off of and hide in while resting made travel that much harder. The main plant life were cacti, which he could not safely fly onto, so he had to carefully travel across the ground. During this new, more dangerous travel, he was startled by a herd of ampelope running from a quillrunner, and when scrambling to hide he got one of his legs pinned underneath a rock.

After about a day spent trapped, Azure's field of vision suddenly went dark. The cause of the giant shadow was a large Guardian dragon, and after his fear spike dropped he realized the dragon was asking him if he needed help. Unused to dragon communication - both as a Fae, and in general - it took him a moment to figure out to respond. By the time he remembered how to say he needed help, the large, imposing dragon had already moved the stone off him. She seemed to know what he needed even though he couldn't say, and Azure didn't resist when she carried him to shelter.

Exhausted, he slept for the next few hours, waking when the Guardian carefully poked him to give him some food she had caught. As he ate, she introduced herself as Foster, and asked how he had gotten hurt. While it was difficult to remember the words, he managed to tell her about his escape and journey to find the Stormcatcher. She was a very attentive listener, and Azure found he wasn't as scared of her large size as he had been at first. Going back to sleep for a little longer, full and less weary, he was glad to have found a friend.

When he woke again, Foster was still there, and she told him about her fruitless search to find a charge of her own. She then proposed that they should start a clan together, and let that be her charge. This seemed like a much better plan than finding a god he had never known, so Azure agreed, and over time the two grew much closer.
