Let not our eyes know sorrow, Nor heart know grief, For we will meet them upon the morrow, And our souls will know relief. Even in the lands of endless light, the shadow of death can not be outshone. There is no defense against its teeth, no warmth to melt its icy grip. Death, inevitable, an undisputed fact of life. A journey all will eventually make, but it is the Cathedral's duty to ensure it is not one taken alone. They will lay the deceased to rest, they will ensure the dead stay buried. They will ensure the lands of light will never stay plagued by the sight of decay. And it is Arete's duty to guide these souls to their final rest. There is a multitude of rituals, a plethora of rites that each dragon desires before their burial and there is a magnitude of requests their lingering loved ones are certain to make - And Arete is specialized in handling each and every one. It is her solemn duty to assist the bereaved in their final farewell and she ensures that all those involved, living or not, are treated with care and respect. Arete oversees the procession, the burial, and commits each passing to page and ink. A written record of each death, so that all may still be remembered. Arete, too, oversees the way in which the deceased are handled. Perhaps they will be buried beneath the earth, perhaps her and Tanta's pyre will send them off, or perhaps they may allow their bodies to be centered ever in the cycle of life, their body given back to nature. |
