Lineage

Biography

Adoptive son of Chi and Madock.

I hear a cry in the distance. I sounds like a hurt bird, letting out warning cries for other birds to run away. Maybe if I arrive soon enough I'll be able to abridge the bird's suffering and finally get something to eat today. I run as fast as I can towards the origin of the sound. The prospect of eating makes me impatient, but it's been a while since I had anything to chew on. The sound is close now, right behind this big rock.
But I am disappointed. It's not a bird. It's almost as big as I am already. It's the kind of dragon that sounds like birds, the ones that others don't understand. Why is it all alone like this, in such a dangerous place ? Of course it's afraid. It's looking at me, clearly terrified. It would be ironic for a dragon to get eaten by some beast... and I still didn't get anything to eat today. But it's a baby. Would I eat a baby hound ? But it's a dragon. It might grow and attack other beasts like me. But a baby.... I have to make up my mind. If I keep it, it will need food to, and what do these feathery dragons eat anyway ? I can't even speak draconic. If I tried to speak to it, all it would understand is growling and grunting.
I turn my back on the baby dragon. It's not like I can help it anyway, can I ? I can't even hunt for myself, let alone that.
When I leave, it resumes the crying, but less loud this time. It's getting desperate for some other dragon to find it, but is too afraid that something else like me will be finding it now... Ah, well, flip it. I spend the day in the area, trying to find anything that looks even remotely edible - insects, some weird fish in a puddle, any kind of grass I can find, and one lizard. When the night sets, I go back to the dragon. It's completely silent now, but I didn't forget where it was. When it sees me, it flinches and backs away a little, so i throw some food in front of me. It sniffs the dead lizard, and whistles something. I can't understand it, but it's not eating, so maybe it doesn't eat lizards. I sigh, put down all the other foods i've managed to gather today, and gulp the entire lizard. If it's not eating it, I don't want it to go to waste.
Finally the baby is getting that I don't want to hurt it. It whistles at me, with sounds more harmonious than this morning's cries. It's probably happy or something. It curls up next to me and falls asleep as I look at what it ate. One weird fish is left, and the other things it didn't eat. Guess they're for me then. You're not picky about food when you're not completely alive anyway.
I guard my dragon baby during the night, nap a little at dawn, then go hunt and fish for the both of us. I know it's scared when I'm not there, and two days after I met it I have to fend off other scavengers trying to eat it. It's my dragon, mine, and I'm not letting anyone steal it from me. This goes on for a few days. Until, in the middle of the night while I guard, I see two shapes in the moonlight. Dragon shapes. I growl and hiss at them, knowing I probably can't overpower them on my own, but they're not touching my baby. They don't even startle seeing me. There's a small one, with fins and bat-ish wings, and a bigger one, a feathery one like my baby. I don't know them, I don't like them. The small one moves its paws in a curious way, and the big one... does the same. Is this how dragons communicate now ? I stop growling for a second, confused. Then the big ones makes a step forwards, and tries to grab my baby. I snap at it, and bite its arm. I feel warmth between my teeth, but for some reason, I don't feel very good about it. Then, the small one says something, presumably in draconic since it's not birdlike singing. I don't understand it, but the tone is... reassuring.
I look at them both a bit more carefully. The small one is fidgety, looking at me, my baby and its companion one after the other. Is it worried ? Why is it worried, i have this under control. It's my baby and I'm protecting it.
Then the baby wakes up. It emits some whistling, and I can clearly hear it's worried too. It doesn't want me to hurt the adults, most likely. I withdraw my bite, staring at the bigger dragon. It scoops up my baby in its arms, then looks at its companion. As I thought that they would be leaving, and that I'd go back to my lonely usual life, the small one held out a hand towards me, beckoning me to follow them.
Well. I don't trust these guys to take proper care of my baby anyway. Might as well go.
