He waits from up in emerald bough
For as long as his free time might allow
Before from his perch he might descend
Another life to swiftly end

Many eyes glare fiercely out
As he sneaks and creeps about
Once you're spotted, there's no point to run
Your fate is sealed, your path is done

Eyes that watch and claws that catch
Other dragons are all outmatched
Quick as a flash he makes his attack
Any passing prey is an easy snack

A fae he may be, and very small
But his many eyes know and see all
From a falling leaf to a passing mouse
He sees it all from his cured-sap house

Garnet eyes and sharpened teeth
Glaring down at all who dwell beneath
Using his many-sighted gaze
Any who cross him give him praise

Maybe because they fear his wrath
And wish to avoid a cruel bloodbath
Or maybe because they truly admire
The dragon with eyes that burn like fire

'But he's just a fae!' passing dragons say
As they go walking on their way
'We're much bigger and can fight
We could gulp him down in a single bite.'

The others try and warn them away
From the many-eyed beast they would allay
But those smug few that go out just to spite
Seldom come back quite all right

Many-sighted and seeing all
From up above the forest halls
He's not afraid to show his strength
Despite his rather diminutive length

So know this: the strongest dragon in the trees
Is not the largest as one would believe
Rather it's Heineck with his many eyes
To pass by without tribute would be most unwise.
