Likes: Math, routine and schedules, Dislikes: Being hungry or tired, and other dragons being emotional around It. Appearance: Surge appears to be a male Ridgeback. It has a large body for the breed, but absurdly small wings for It's size. It has deemed It's wings to be inefficient for flight and so does not use them often. It has a surprisingly light build, almost skeletal, and it's "Skin" seems to cover a much denser material then muscle and bone. This may be an effect of being partially (or mostly?) mechanical. First there was light. Or perhaps dark? There must have been dark before light, but It doesn’t have sensors to detect dark. It was the light that brought the knowledge of dark. In any case, it is now light. Blindingly so. For a while, there is light and nothing else. Then, suddenly, there was movement. Waves in the air and the ground. It hadn’t been aware of ‘stillness’ before, but it is definitely not ‘still’ now. The waves turn into vibrations and then into feeling. It feels. And that is an odd thing to process. It imagines that this is what rolling thunder or maybe an explosion might feel like, if you were right in the middle of it. The waves and vibrations and feelings turn into sounds. A high decibel. Alarms and raised voices and general mayhem. The light dissipates some. The vision is chaotic and It almost wishes for the blinding light back. There are creatures rushing around; It tries to plot their trajectories but they don’t seem to have one... It finds the situation mildly... irritating? It knows that this is unreasonable, somehow. “Mauro! What are you doing here? What did you do?!?!” “HE EXPLODED THE TECHLAB!” “Someone kill that alarm!” “WHAT DID YOU TOUCH?” It wondered if they were talking to It. Was It “Mauro”? Was It supposed to respond? It didn’t remember touching anything. Fortunately, It didn’t have to wait long for the answer; a little feathered snake hopped out from under a desk to answer their questions. “Well, you see... I lost the camera on my last excursion....” “A camera?!?!?!” “WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING??!?!” “You could have just ASKED. I have a blueprint for cameras in storage!” “Let him talk!” “....But I’ve used it many times so I thought I could reverse engineer it....” “YOU REVERSED ENGINEERED A BOMB!” “If 'womb' is pronounced 'woom' and 'tomb' is pronounced 'toom', shouldn't 'bomb' be pronounced 'boom'?” “SHUT-UP CHIP.” “...so I found a telescope, and a big metal box, some of those interesting looking wired bits, and that crazy cylinder of liquid lightning, and look what I made!” the little feather-snake pointed at It, chest feathers puffed up proudly. It stared at the large group of creatures surrounding It. They stared back. “I shall call it, Toaster.” |

It is analytical and mathematical in mindset, and extremely confused by life. Life, as it turns out, cannot be figured out by equation or calculation and that leaves Surge feeling.... well, It doesn’t know what the feeling is, but it’s on the unpleasant side of the spectrum. It doesn’t really understand emotions as others perceive them. Oh, It can recognize them in others well enough... through facial recognition and comparison, but It doesn’t always know how to respond to them. Or what to do about them. Or how to make them go away.

It considers sleep to be an incredibly useless waste of time. It enjoys routine and schedules; It can calculate the exact amount of time an action will take and fit the most tasks possible into It's day. Multi-tasking, they call it. Apparently, It is good at this. But sleeping is not time efficient. It is a singular task that leaves no room for anything else. However, not sleeping makes Surge sluggish and inefficient at other tasks and so It schedules appropriate sleep time anyway.

It dislikes hunger. This was It's first known discomfort, and the only one It cannot cure or escape. Multiple times a day It's stomach decides (seemingly at random) that it requires nourishment, and It must stop It's current task to fill the ever aching void. It remembers the first week of life; where It didn’t know food was necessary for survival, and so simply didn’t eat because It didn’t know It needed to. It awoke in the infirmary, on an IV drip and had to listen to a very angry Miss Jenna as she doled out a chastisement worthy of record. Three pages, 12pt, double spaced. It's first real experience with a Guilt-Trip. Fortunately, hunger is easily dealt with. This at least, is a task that can be completed with exacting precision. Recipes are like blueprints. Apparently, Surge is a very good cook.

It does not understand most jokes. Puns It can work out, usually. It has a dictionary definition of every word memorized, after all. But It often doesn’t know why something should be found funny. In most cases, It doesn’t have enough life experience to understand. It feels no compulsion to laugh.
