Gemma had never been very good at sharing, but luckily, in her new job, she didn’t have to. As the protector of her clan’s finances, it was her objective to keep anyone and everyone from getting their grimy claws on her mountain of golden treasure. At least, as long as they didn’t have written approval to appropriate clan funds.

Gemma had stumbled on her role quite by accident, but now that she was here, she couldn’t imagine a more satisfying way to spend her time. All day long, she sat in the clan’s vault, perched atop her pinnacle of coins, looking down at any supplicant that dared enter her domain. She would extend her long tail down to pluck their offered parchment, lazily perusing their paperwork, ready to deny their request at the slightest discrepancy. Out of the corner of her eye, she would watch them squirm while she grilled them mercilessly on the contents of their proposal. If she found their answers lacking in the slightest, they would be banished from the vault with a mighty roar and ferocious grin. For those select few who measured up against Gemma’s near-impossible standards, the Imperial would give a sigh, unceremoniously tossing their paperwork (that had no doubt taken weeks to acquire) towards a pile in the back of the vault, and begrudgingly rising from her treasure throne to count out the amount allotted. Before handing it over, she would give the recipient a final warning: spend a single coin on something other than its intended purpose… and they’d never see the inside of her vault again.
