The Soulgems emerged from the depths of Sornieth, appearing to pull themselves out of the walls of the deepest caverns twisting through the realm. They are a silent species, choosing to use signals and body language to speak rather than vocalizing their thoughts. This is likely due to their lack of ability to vocalize, as they emerged from stone their body's are still stiff, speaking would likely crack their vocal cords - if they have any, to begin with.

Soulgems appear to stay beneath the earth, simply locking eyes with dragons they encounter and beckoning them to follow them down deeper into the caverns. Dragons have found that the Soulgems will lead the following dragon to the nearest diety, guiding them to exaltation in serving their chosen deity.

As time passed on the Soulgems have been coerced to the upper reaches of caverns and some even onto land. However, Soulgems are unable to hold flight, as their stone bodies weigh them down far too much to facilitate flight, they are, however, able to use their wings to glide, even if not for a very long period of time.

Soulgems are unable to reproduce using their inner organs, however, they are able to carve new Soulgems out of magic-rich stone which is plentiful around Sornieth. This process often leaves an enchanted "mark" upon the new Soulgem, allowing them to be traced back to the Soulgems who created them.
