Biography
He doesn't look up when you step into his office. He finishes the straight line he's carefully tracing, before pulling another ruler out of his desk, so he can line it up with the other one and measure out the proper spacing. He slowly, agonizingly, moves his ruler down the page two inches and you start to suspect he hasn't even noticed you. You clear your throat.
His head jerks up and he smiles at the sight. "Hello! What can I do for you?"
The sudden enthusiasm is slightly disconcerting. "Are you the statistician?"
"I am, yes!" he says. He stands and reaches out to shake your hand.
"I was just interested in looking at some of your data?"
His eyes widen, almost comically. You get the impression that he doesn't hear that sentiment very often but he summons you over to his filing cabinet. "All the hard data is here, but there are also copies out in the public area of the library. Here it's all colour-coded, of course, and clearly labeled. Starting at this end, the green is for correlation between breed and flight..."
"Well," you clear your throat. "Thank you. Are there copies of this I can take with me?"
"Yes, yes," says Alkali. "They're down in the Kairos Life section. You can just ask one the librarian to make you a copy of whatever you need."
"Thank you." You hesitate, giving the fae a quick one-over. "Can I ask you an unrelated question?"
He nods and gestures grandly for you to continue.
"If you're a statistician, why do you wear armour?"
He chortles. "I was just getting ready for a trip! The dragons here in the Refuge are all relatively friendly but I have a lot of work around Sornieth as well! Not all dragons are friendly and many don't like having personal questions asked of them, best be prepared, you know!"
