Biography

Pearl

the opalescent warrior

Familiar:

Pearly Shell Infused Crystal Ice Crystal Lustrous Shell

As icy and forbidding as the harsh winter landscape that surrounds her, Pearl is a warrior that lacks compassion and harbours only cold, hard logic. In some ways, she is the perfect wyrm for the Southern Icefield. Her beautiful hide is, in some ways, a facade that conceals the stony reasoning of this dragon.

Forged by the cold winter winds and dull icy sunrises, Pearl is one member of the clan that belongs to the withering environment of the Fortress of Ends that the clan has made its abode in. Since she was young, her dazzling hide caught the eye of many a dragon. Her abrupt personality drove many away, however, and this beautiful drake of ice became accustomed to being alone.

Soon enough, it appeared that she was drawn to items of a similar iridescent hue as her own. Items that washed up on the shores of her old clan were carefully collected with a gentle claw by the Imperial. In no way did her size as an Imperial hinder her incredible beauty; rather, it added to her sleek visage. Many became used to the dragon wandering about collecting trinkets and things that a dragon with a lesser vocabulary might have called 'shiny'.

It was on one of these trips collecting things that caught her eye that Pearl first spied a fluffy Cumulus Seal. It was tiny compared to her, and one would have expected its dull grey coat to disinterest her over something like a Brilliant Psywurm, but the shine of the creature's hide when wet truly fascinated her. She would come back day after day to watch the seal dance about underwater, performing acrobatics the likes of which a Spiral would have envied.

Then on another occasion, something terrible happened. Pearl was visiting the Seal where it had usually been to find it beset upon by rather vicious looking Maren Beastfolk. She instantly leapt into the freezing waters, not heeding the ice cold waves like a true dragon of Ice.

It was this event that first taught Pearl that she would be an excellent warrior. Her streaked hide blended perfectly with the currents and ripples of the water, and she became as a speeding bullet of dragon fury. That day, Pearl tore those Maren to shreds. The Cumulus Seal knew who had been its saviour, and from that day Pearl was no longer alone. The seal became her familiar.

Life passed as usual for a while. The seal, whom she came to know as Cirrus, often fetched little items that the dragon spied as she flew above water, the water reflecting her body almost like she had a twin. Her collection grew larger, while her clan did nothing but continue to brave the terrifying winters.

Finally, Pearl decided to break the monotony. Without a word to her clan, she flew over mountains and under seas to a clan sufficiently far away from her previous clan. More than happy with her decision, Pearl spent more time fighting off antagonistic schools of Maren than enjoying her journey. Although she cherished her time with her seal, inside, Pearl still had the cold tinge from remaining without a friend for years. It still followed her wherever she went, however, a true companion.

Her 'new' life began when she saw a dragon with similar wings as she. An Imperial, he sat on a single ice floe, basking in the dim boreal sun. His red coat was starkly in contrast to the bleached white of the landscape that surrounded him, and he wore a purple mask that hid his face from the world. A single bird was nestled amongst his antlers, hidden almost by his white mane.

Tentatively approaching him, the dragon heard her coming first and turned to her. He invited her to share the floe with him, and she sat there for a day. As time passed, the drake introduced himself as Diaval. Little would Pearl know, this would be her very first love and mate. He offered her his mask, stating he had no use for it, and so Pearl gained her signature mask.

Diaval eventually told her that he belonged to a clan. A clan that was more than accepting of newcomers, and would she like to stay?

It was in this way that Pearl found herself with friends, a mate and clanmates, more people than she had ever known in her life. Slowly, her cold heart warmed and Pearl's stony countenance began softening. Her clan would attribute this to Diaval, but Pearl didn't care much. Now, she had dragons that cared for her, and dragons she cared for, and that was sufficient for her.
