Biography
Arvia Thunder
Princess - The Capital Arvia came to Algidir in search of her family. It was only rumors, just hints of a coatl queen who fit her mother's description of the long lost hatchling. The stories were true... and the kingdom that her aunt had ruled was nothing like the kingdoms of the north. Reserved, curious, and secretive. |
It wasn't like the north. She'd had that realization plenty of times. The day she woke up and realized the shadow of the Behemoth was gone. The sullen eyes of the Firefolk, distrustful ever since their little rebellion. The abundance and then utter lack of air travel. Her mother had said the balloons could take her all the way, but not a single one even dared to venture out over the seas since the Tidecaller had vanished. Chartering a ship in the autumn was near impossible as they risked the winter storms rising. Only the merchants who intended to stay in the frigid land of the icefield through the season were available... but finally Arvia had found one. Bribed with a yellow sapphire the size of a fae skull, the silk trader set out that morning. "Algidir," he'd hummed at her, eyes narrowed upon the faceted wealth she'd flashed. "Now what would a girlie like you be seeking there?" But he hadn't truly wanted an answer; she gave him no reply. But the night it first snowed out on the ocean was the day she realized she was not worldly. All her study, all her cosmopolitan high courts... they were such small views based on old news. The tiny stars sank into the blackness like they had never existed, only visible within the tiny light of the enchanted mast. Here she was, realizing again. Every road in the north was fairly battered, echoes of ages long past and the heavy wear of travel beneath centuries of dragon claw. But not here on this island. From this edge of the port city four clean new roads branched out. Small stone pillars were inscribed in both the modern and ancient scripts. "Shadeside, two crowcalls. What in the Lightweaver's shadow is a 'crowcall'?" A voice came from right beside her ear. "Unit of measurement, my dear." She hissed, jerking away and raising her crest in surprise. A deep green spiral raised his head, snorting in amusement. "It's quite a simple local term, referring to the distance a dragon might travel in a single day if unassisted." Arvia raised her fist in anger. "How dare you approach me in such a manner!" He raised one scaled eyebrow. "It is my job, my dear, to speak with diverse dragons and gain their perspectives." That answer put the coatl off the lecture brimming on her tongue. "What?" She took in his clothing. It was simple but the draping was obviously silk, his scarf fine wool, his pants embroidered in scale. "I am a Representative for the Council of Flights, Crocus Behamett of the Gladevein Tower." He lightly bowed, clearly a noble. "I see that you are a stranger to our land. Our citizens would know not to be on this side of town at night, not without the Crimson Butterfly in attendance... and the sun is nearly set." Arvia turned her head as he pointed towards the side of the road. It wasn't clear at first what she was looking at. Ruins weren't unusual at all to her and so they had escaped notice before. These ruins weren't old though. They were blasted out buildings which had once looked like the rest of the red-roofed city, burned near beyond recognition and overgrown with dark thorns. Around each one were draped prayer ropes, dozens on some places. "Why hasn't this evil been driven out?!" Her voice came out in an angry squeak. "Our people aren't exorcists like the Lightlings to the north. Only the Crimson Butterfly can subdue these fresh wounds of war. Please, either leave the city or return to the hospitality district." more story |
