Biography

20181024_graphic1_by_death_in_the_orchard-dcqadff.png
Silviana stretched languidly, lifting her delicate head from the lavish pillow. Her claws flexed lightly at the cushy surface, letting them scrape the velvet the wrong way. Her crimson eyes were dull and hooded with lazy lids. They trailed slowly along the room, not really seeing even as she looked.
Her whiskers twitched as someone entered behind her. It had to be Her. With a resigned sigh, Silviana sat up, puffing her chest proudly and lifting her head high. She gazed blindly forward, ensuring her shining hide was hit by the light just right.
The mistress walked by without looking. Her long, tapered tail slid beneath Silviana's chin before coming to a stop holding it. The gargantuan coatl turned to look her in the eye, "How are you my pet? Well?"
Silviana whispered, "Yes."
She smiled and her tail dropped to the ground. "Perfect!" She chirped with glee. "Now, go out onto the grounds for a stroll. Remember to stay in view of this window though," she chided.
Silviana slunk elegantly as she could to the window then leapt out. It was only a short glide to the ground thankfully.
She strut across the manicured lawn, body poised and the very image of beauty in the high noon light. It was terribly hot on her dark hide but she pressed on. She looped in lazy circles, then zigzagged across the terf. She kept the watching dragon guessing, never too predictable.
What a life! She was no more than a fixture. No, worse; she was a toy! It was like she was just waiting to be wound up then set loose for the much larger coatl to watch. She was unyielding, insisting that Silviana maintain decorum for for nobility at all times. She was only the most elegant of decorations throughout the sprawling home.
Silviana longed to be more than just some living statue. She wanted to be free and wild, able to do as she pleased. She longed for something to catch her eye and make them blaze with life, sparked by an instant of passion. Most of all, she wanted to finally be able to fly. For now though, all she had to do was strut and not stray.

The thing about dragons is that, unlike statues, they grow.
Her mistress, though once enormous and imposing to a hatchling, was no match for a fully matured imperial. As Silviana grew, her mistress was at first complacent. The coatl felt assured that her prized pet was docile and subdued. However, once the statuesque dragon loomed far above her, she looked up and saw contempt and disgust in those red eyes. Perhaps too late, the dignified coatl turned to other means of control.
As She glided into the room Silviana's lip curled. "Hello my shining beauty, the star of my life and jewel of my collection!" Silviana stood stiff, only her eyes following as the much smaller dragon approached; she didn't bother to strike a pose. "You're standing proud and magnificent as ever my beauty! Now, I brought you a little something, nothing too extravagant," she twittered cheerfully as she pushed forward a wrapped box.
Silviana looked down at it impassively. Several long moments passed before the mistress scrambled to unwrap it and present the dark iron bracelet within. The cool, confident control was gone, replaced by indulgent bribes and flattery.
"If you could please lift your paw and I'll just-" Silviana raised her arm and thrust her large hand towards the coatl. Her mistress jumped back with a sharp trill. She looked up with a graceful smile, "Thank you my treasure."
Feeling the cold iron close around her wrist felt all too fitting. Before her mistress let go she dropped her paw to the floor, yanking it from her grasp with ease. The mistress's melodic voice quivered, "Now would you mind going out and showing off? I'm sure it'll be absolutely divine in the sunlight." She swept a wing encouragingly towards the large window.
Silviana's gaze did not follow the motion, staying locked on the coatl well below eye level. The feathered dragon fluffed herself, refusing to wilt. "Well-" she cut herself off. Instead she sauntered over to her lounge chair and settled in to gaze upon her prize. The prize stared right back, still standing stiffly. Eventually the mistress grew restless and left. Silviana was starting to think perhaps she had the right idea...
